I Know it's a Little Late...

So yea, I'm a little late posting this, but after the game I went to sleep and pretty much didn't wake up until now. But hey, it was well worth it.

So if you havn't guessed it; yes, I went to the Winter Classic, or as I call it, the Ice Bowl. I froze my butt off, but loved every second of it. I wasn't planning on going at first, until Christmas when I was surprised with a pair of 20th row, center ice tickets to the hottest game in town. (THANK YOU UNCLE TED!)

It was pretty much amazing. Bagpipes led the players in for warm ups, then smoke and flames later for the game. Fresh snow filled the stadium for most of the game, and most of the stadium didn't take a seat until the game had finished. And let me tell you, hearing 71,217 fans all chanting "Let's Go Buffalo!" gives you chills.

Well, here are some blurry, not great pictures of the game (snow and a bad camera don't make a great shot):

Girls, We're Famous!

X-Posted on Confession's of a Teenage Hockey Chick

Okay, so as usual, I was reading the sports section this Saturday morning to see some interesting news about the Sabres beating the Islanders and winning the first round (!!!) when I noticed that EVERY section of the paper had the Sabres on the front. Even in weekend life there was a whole article on female fans in hockey... so this got me interested. I read, and read some more until I noticed some blurbs on the side of the second page. On top it was titled 'Signs of the Hockey Times: Check out these examples of women making their hockey presence known:' then I freaked out after reading the very first blurb:

- An online hockey blog, "Hockey's Ladies of Greatness" (http://hlog.blogspot.com/), devotes itself to puck chatter among women fans of professional hockey teams (including Heather and Paige, who write about the Buffalo Sabres.)

After I finished freaking out, I continued reading the rest as it told about the Cap's "Hockey 'n' Heels", pink jerseys, nearly half of females attending games and how women much enjoy spending money on hockey stuff (duh).
So yeah, I'm (We're) FAMOUS! Kinda... still pretty wicked.

Don't beleive me? Check it out!

I'm Feeling Daring

So yeah, this year for the playoff pool, I had some funny ideas for my choices, but here they are anyways:

Buffalo Sabres vs. New York Islanders - Sabres - Obviously, I'm not superstitious. I just love my boys, and no one can convince me they are not going all the way. (Deal with it!)

New Jersey Devils vs. Tampa Bay Lightening - Devils - Tampa Bay has a pretty good offense, but they don't have a chance against the Devils' lethal defense. This time, pretty good just isn't gonna cut it.

Atlanta Thrashers vs. New York Rangers - Rangers - No real reason for this one, I'm just hopeful, and I'm pretty sure the Sabres can beat the Rangers when they meet them in Round 2.
Ottawa Senators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins - Penguins - A fellow female fan told me this, "So it looks like it's experience vs. a young, fast, inexperienced team; I'm betting on the Sens." This got me thinking, wasn't there a certain inexperienced, young, fast team that played Ottawa last year in the playoffs? And what was the outcome of that?

Detroit Red Wings vs. Calgary Flames - Flames - Okay, this one is just a hopeful wish.

Anaheim Ducks vs. Minnesota Wild - Ducks - I know the Wild has some sound defense, but so does Anaheim, and I just think that the Ducks play a more solid game that will flourish now, in the post season.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Dallas Stars - Stars - I just like them better, and I think they can win if they take shots often, and really work to get the puck behind Luongo.

Nashville Predators vs. San Jose Sharks - Predators - I know that they're on a bit of a skid right now, and the Sharks are doing well, but I hope that the Preds can step up to the plate.

Finally- Who do I think will meet at the Cup finals?
Right now, I'm thinking the Ducks will be battling it out (and losing) to my boys. But if I'm right, and the Preds step up, then they have a real good chance too.

Okay, I just thought this was really funny- Apparently, Sidney Crosby is now a Superhero, well, at least an action figure.

Also, this might be why they always play those Penguin's games on Versus-

If this can't bring home a cup...

I can't talk right now because of my strep throat, but I can still type! Sorry it has been so long since I've posted, but now I've got the chance with a few sick days.

Anyways... here is my dream team. It's pretty convoluted with Sabres, but what can I say? I love my team.

Offense
Malkin - Crosby - Afinogenov: These are some of my favorite players, and there is a lot of chemistry between Crosby and Malkin. I just threw Afinogenov in there because I love him so, and being with those guys would really boost his points. ;)

Hossa - Briere - Heatley: I can't take credit for this brilliant idea. It was actually Lindy Ruff's idea during the All-Star game. Unfortunately, I can't deny the chemistry between Briere and a SEN! (dun, dun, dun...) They racked up 12 points at the game, so I'd have to consider it.

Kozlov - Eric Staal - St. Louis: There's no real reason for this match up, just sort of like the way they play. They tend to be hard-working guys, and with that kind of points, they're bound to do amazingly.

Jagr - Lecavalier - Demitra: I figured that with a veteran like Jagr, and the one man team of Lecavalier, this would work out. Demitra is mainly there because he is a steady player, and I need someone to be awesome in the shootout.

Defense
Phaneuf - Campbell - Reghr - Markov - Pronger - Malik - Tallinder: These guys are all amazing. I like a descent mix of aggressive offense that will make the play for the goals, and still have some solid guys in back. I really don't know who'd I put out together. Probably one aggressive guy and one really defensive guy when it's 5-on-5.

Goalies
Luongo: This guy is just insane. He makes some saves that I didn't believe to be possible, and he seems to play a major role in keeping the Canucks strong.
Miller: My Millsy is just always there, plus I'd have to play him for every possible shootout. It's quite insane to have him as back-up, but hey, it's a dream team! Miller is what is holding the Sabres together, and you can depend on him through everything.

I'll Miss You Marty!

I know how much everyone here at HLOG loves the sweet, funny, easy-to-like Marty Biron, so I'd thought I'd announce that he has indeed been traded. With out him- *ugh* I no longer have so many things-

  • Someone to enjoy watching get into a goalie fight
  • Someone to laugh at when ever they are mic'd
  • Someone to relax the Sabres
  • Someone to make me laugh, even when we lose a terrible game
  • Someone to stand between the pipes, and give the ever hardworking Millsy an ever needed break

I now can only hope that the Sabres can find someone who has a personality like his, even though I don't think it can be done, especially among skilled hockey players. Of course, a goalie fight is a memorable way to say goodbye. I'm happy for him b/c he'll now have a chance to finally be a starter, just like he deserves. Yet, I do feel sorry, because after so many years, and now that we will have a best playoff run since forever, he won't be able to finish his legacy with a Stanley Cup. Marty, I'LL MISS YOU! :-( and so will the entire Buffalo area. Kristin- I'm afraid I am now nearly a Philly fan. Count your blessings, and take good care of him.

Along with Biron, the Sabres have also traded Jiri Novotny, but received Timo Helbling and Dainius Zubrus, from the Washington Capitals, even though Zurbus is an unrestricted free agent after this season. Also, to replace Marty, we have acquired Ty Conklin from the Columbus Blue Jackets for our new back-up. We also acquired another d-man from the Predators, Mikko Lehtonen. It's great to add some depth to our defence.

^The above has also been posted on my blog, along with some more.^

Now, since I didn't think I should just write about the trades done on the Sabres, I thought I'd answer the Weekly Challenge- so, who do I secretly cheer for? Let's see... there's a few.

Sidney Crosby- Yes, I have a soft side for this little wonder. Maybe it's because he's nearly my age and hot as hell. Maybe it's that he is the best player in the league. It just seems like he has it all. I'm actually a new semi-fan of the entire Penguins team. I also like Malkin- I love Russians.

Zdeno Chara- I know he a giant, I know he's scary, and I know he's just a little creepy, but I am in total awe. It's amazing someone as monstrous as Chara can be so graceful, and over a hundred mile shot, oh my god. If I was a goalie blocking that shot, I think I'd pee my pants.

Jaromir Jagr- I know everyone hates him, but as a player, I have a lot of respect. He has been through it all, and has the expeirence to prove it.

Isn't it Amazing?

What I think is amazing is this: the Buffalo Sabres have to have the best fans out there. I'm sorry, but it's true! As you recall, there was a "unfair" hit against Chris Drury from Chris Neil. Many did not believe it was dirty, but the way Neil acted last night I think made it significant that he had the intention of hurt Chris Drury. He instigated (Is that a word? Maybe he was the 'instigator.') many fights last night, but only one was started between himself and Adam Mair (along with an anticipated fight between Andrew Peters and Brian McGratton). He also barged in after McGratton got in Danny Briere's face during the game warm-up, Adam Mair also showed up to make sure nothing happened.

ANYWAYS... Lindy Ruff was fined $10,000 because he put the Peters, Mair, Kaleta line up verses the Spezza line on Thursday. Now, every player agrees, he did not tell them to do anything, only to get on the ice. Now, that right there made Buffalo mad, so some people decided to make a statement and help out. For instance, Pesci's Pizza, a Buffalo pizzeria, decided to donate 10% of their proceeds to Lindy Ruff to pay his fine. Also, in some towns farther to the south, a school is suggesting students who are Sabres fans donate a dollar, also for Ruff's charge. As a result, the Sabres organization released this statement-

STATEMENT FROM THE BUFFALO SABRES ON FANS WANTING TO DONATE MONEY TO THE BUFFALO SABRES TO HELP PAY FOR LINDY RUFF'S $10,000 FINE:
"The Buffalo Sabres organization is aware of some fans wanting to donate money to help pay for the fine that was levied on Lindy Ruff by the NHL on Saturday. It certainly is a wonderful gesture by our fans to want to assist Lindy through various fundraisers, but the team will pay the fine. We do not want fans to donate any money to Lindy or the organization as a result of the fine."

Although, many people were expecting this, so Chris Phillips, co-owner of Pesci's Pizza specified "If Lindy wants to donate it to a charity of his choice or the Sabres Foundation, that would be fine with us." I mean, how many cities would do that for their team. It reminds me of last year in March, when the fans were very supporting of the Ruff family because his daughter, Madeleine, was discovered to have a brain tumor.

By the way, I change my answer to number 5 on the questionnaire.

5. If you had to punch one hockey player or member of the NHL Organization, who and why?

Chris Neil, because I hate him for what he got away with.

They Look Alike, in a Twisted, Messed Up Kind of Way

It is more difficult than I thought. Just bear with me on some of them.

Jason Pominville and Ryan Cabrera-
Thankfully, Jason Pominville does not look like this any more. That picture was taken when he was on our farm team, the Rochester Americans, but as soon as I saw that picture it reminded me of Ryan Cabrera. The hair is just so similar!

Danny Paille and Ashton Kutcher-
Okay, I know this one is a bit of a stretch, but I couldn't resist. Paille's favorite TV show is That 70's show and his hair looks like it came out of that show, so there it is. You have no idea how much I would like Danny Paille to look like Ashton Kutcher more.

Patrick Dempsey and Chris Drury- This one is quite shocking, and I actually can't take credit for it. Someone actually wrote into the Buffalo News stating this, and at first I didn't beleive it until I saw the pictures. Also, last night I was flipping between the game and Grey's Anatomy so I could really see the similarities.

Jaroslav Spacek and Fred Flinstone- Okay, okay, I know this one is sort of mean, but seriously, you see it don't you?! I've thought this since the begining- Spacek looks like a caveman, so to be nicer, I used the friendly, cheerful caveman, Mr. Flinstone!

Teppo Numminen and Antonio Banderas- I don't know why, but they look alike. It's especially weird because Antonio is Spanish and Teppo is Finnish. Maybe it's the hair, maybe it's the face, maybe it's something else, I don't know.

The sad part is that 3 out of the five I have are injured... Wow, that's pathetic. Also, I pray it doesn't turn out Drury has a concussion.

Fashion and Hockey

As some of you may know, Ryan Miller started his own charity for kids with cancer. It is called the Steadfast Foundation, and he has had much sucess with it so far. Miller has had always had a softside for disabled kids, and after his cousin was diagnosed with cancer, "It really hit home" according to his father, Dean Miller.

Now, you are probably wondering what the heck hockey has to do with fashion, so I'll attempt in explaining it. Ryan Miller decided to host a "Catwalk for Charity," where the Sabres themselves would be modeling clothes. I really wanted to go, but I figured it was not worth the minimum $200 to get in. As the players strutted their stuff to songs such as "Fergalicious" and "Sexy Back" fans screamed as their favorites appeared. You know hockey is becoming popular with the women of the world when they decide the hold a fashion show.Click this to see the hilarious video of the Fashion Show!

Millsey also visits kids at the hospital and even did when he attended the All-Star game. I know I shouldn't wish for cancer, but meeting Ryan Miller would brighten my day, no matter the circumstances.

Before the fashion show there was also an auction in which he raised over 100 thousand dollars. Which nearly half of ($50,000) was for a signed and worn helmet of Ryan Miller's bought by Billy Fucillo who owns Fucillo Chevrolet, a local car shop.

So that was just a quick 'Congratulations!' for Ryan Miller on his sucess with his foundation and the joy he is bringing to many young one's life with cancer.

Gotta Love it!

The Cool Things

I just love how very polite and sincere every player is. After every interview I hear the player thank the interviewer. They appeal to fans of all places, ages, and (of course) genders. There isn't any Terrell Owens in hockey. They all are very sportsmanlike and easy to like. Even if they are one of the ones who get in a fight every game, they usually have a good reason for it. Hockey players are just so very easy to love!

Also, hockey is such a historical sport, especially with the Stanley Cup. And great hockey players are some of the most remembered legends, Wayne Gretzky is still a household name and I still refer to Hasek as "the dominator."

Lastly, the thing that truly lured me into the world of hockey is how exciting and fast paced it is. I am still flabbergasted by how amazingly difficult a save is, or what a great goal is at a game, even after seeing it happen a few dozen times before. Hockey just never gets old.

The Not-so-cool Things

Is that what they call advertising? In Buffalo, people pay the Sabres to put the logo on their store, or on their product. But, many a times I have seen people who haven't seen anything to entice them to the NHL, especially way down South. They should be putting commercials on during the Superbowl or some other ridiculously popular sports event. The NHL is so exciting, it's practically begging for some advertising. The only commercials I have seen for hockey is on during the hockey games, which seems awfully pointless because the people watching are already fans.

What can I say?

What can I say? There isn't much I'm dissapointed in. I can't really complain that we arn't winning enough, but I can say who has made me especially proud of! Even if there are a few who I expected more of.

The Surprises

Danny Paille
It looks like I have a new Danny boy to add to my list! Paille started the year as a healthy scratch, but lately he has been playing great. When playing the Bruins he even scored 2 goals in a game. Also, after the Sabres played a quite miserable game, Ruff said that he was playing the best on the team, and keeping the game in check. Ruff once threatened him that if he didn't play better and put his all into the game, Ruff had the power to keep him from ever having a career in the NHL. And Paille answered! He still travels down to the Rochester Americans, but he is now playing nearly every game. I was also especially proud of him after he "nailed" Chara!

Marty Biron

I think Marty was just destined for greatness. It's really great to know that even your backup is amazing. Marty has really made Miller's life easier by taking the pressure off Ryan's back. It does help that we probably are not keeping him for next year, so he's trying to show himself off, but he does do his job, and he does it well. I'm also proud that he could have back-to-back wins against Boston. But, Lindy is concerned for him leaving (and for good reason) because Marty B has a way of loosening up the team, so they don't get so stressed and worried. I also love his personality, but seriously, who doesn't? He loves to talk, and he loves to laugh, and everyone loves him for it. I'll seriously miss him next year, and I'll probably become a fan of whoever is lucky enough to snatch him up first.

The Dissapointments

Tim Connolly

I know Tim is an amazing player, and one of the best on the team. But he's no use if he isn't playing! I seems like an awful waste to pay someone 3 million dollars, and he doesn't skate until over half the season is over. It looks like he'll be playing soon, but he won't be at his best until the playoffs (if we're lucky). It's really quite a shame, but I can't wait to see him skate again and let the memories come back!

Well, it seems the only player I can really think of anything wrong with, isn't playing! So other than that I'm happy with the team. There are some players who don't score goals, and there are some that get lots of penalty minutes, but they weren't signed expecting to be stars. I am perhaps dissapointed in Andrew Peters though, but that's because I don't feel he is as much of an enforcer, and more of someone who just enjoys fighting.

But, overall, I am more than pleased of the outcome of the Sabres so far this season.

It's Miller Time

"The best chance Buffalo has to change it's sports history comes down to the space between Ryan Miller's ears. --- The good news: He seems ready." -The Buffalo News

The quote above says it all. Miller is the heart of Buffalo's sucess, saving us time and time again. I'm so very glad I finally have a chance to blab about my dear Millsy (as his teamates call him).

Millsy is perhaps the just plain weirdest dude I've heard of. Anyone who describes him usually mentions "intense." The Buffalo News showed an article on him, where his father describes Miller as "A baby who you would poke in the ribs, and instead of giggling he would look at you with a look on his face saying "What was that for?"." He is so serious about what he does that he has a sports psychiatrist who sometimes even travels on the road with him. Of course, Miller is royalty in Buffalo. Listen to this, which I found in the same article in the Buffalo News:

"Amanda Shultz, a waitress at Pearl Street Grill where Miller ate that late autumn lunch, took one look and called her mother, Patricia. "Mom, guess who is here," she said on the phone. "God is here." "
^I LOVE this picture, but I'm not sure if I should be insulted by it.^

Also, Miller has a distinct pregame ritual that he does before every game. He is so into the routine that he doesn't seem to notice cameras or even screaming fans. I have a funny habit of mimicking him when I'm concentrating really hard. Especially the way he stretches his neck. You can see his weird tactics on you tube.

So, that's my grub on the one, the only, "MILLLERRR...!" as Rick Jeanneret might say. He is just so amazing at what he does, and so exciting to watch. He was the All-Star starter goalie too.

Just to throw this in: Have you ever noticed that most goalies tend to be number 30, or a number in the 30's? Either that, or their are a few that are number 1, Emery and I think Luongo. Just something to think about.

Speaking of All-Star game, let me take the chance to praise my Danny Boy. It turns out he is more "petit" than Heather B. might think. It turns out he is admittingly 2 inches shorter than his statistics say, making him a mere 5 ft. 8 inches. He was often told that it was too bad he wasn't 6 foot 1 inch, or he could be a great hockey player and make the NHL. Then, after the Pheonix Cyotes dropped him, he thought of traveling to Europe to play. Luckily, the Sabres got hold of him (in exchange for a better draft pick). Good thing they did, because we now have the MVP in the NHL. Danny is leading us on our quest for the cup! (I just hope we can keep him since he's a free agent after this season.)

The Perfect Game.

What are your ten prerequisites for a perfect game?

1. Overtime or Shootout - Earlier today the Sabres went into a shootout. We may have lost, but I was so excited I couldn't even watch Vanek's shot that we needed to win.

2. A Breakaway - I love it when someone can slip past the other team, especially when it's someone like Maxim Afinogenov when they make the d-men look ridiculous.

3. A Great Save - When someone can make just an amazing save it makes you just gasp. Goaltending is just so difficult, and a good one is just astounding. During the game today Ryan Miller made the save of the season. It was a 2 on 1 and they passed it back and forth around Brian Campbell. Miller was expecting the guy to shoot but instead he passed, and the guy he passed too of course shot. Miller flung out his stick and stopped it just before the crease. Then, to stop the rebound, he fell right on to it. Wow, just had to get that in.

4. No Injuries - I just hate it when a valuable player gets hurt, even if it's on a team that I don't like. It just sort of seams like you're cheating.

5. An Unexpected Fight - I love it when some players who don't get in fights surprise everyone and do. Maxim Afinogenov has only gotten into a fight once this season, so when he did with Williams he flipped the guy over. Also, during the game today Derek Roy (who is 5 ft. 10 in.) got into a fight with Zdeno Chara (6 ft. 9 in.). Of course, Zdeno pushed him over w/ the first shove... but still.

6. A Grateful Crowd - I love it when the crowd is just grateful to be there. In Buffalo, you're luck to get some tickets, so the whole arena is incredibly hyper. Plus, the crowd just seems so bored when you see the games in Florida and the Southern states.

7. A Great Sign - I love it when they show a person in the audience with a creative and funny sign that makes you smile. A while ago, when there was the Surprise October Storm in Buffalo (when the game wasn't even expected to show) there was some people with a sign that read "Right Now, My Basement is Flooding." Of course, the sign holders were still estatic to just be there and beaming the entire time.

8. When you have great seats - I love it when you are so close you can actually tell the player's face's apart. I once had tickets on the glass, it was amazing because I was just in aww the entire time because my "heroes" were right in front of me.

9. A Great Announcer - If you can't make a game, you at least need a great announcer. You can't beat Rick Jeanneret. The way he leads you up to what's coming, you always know when to pay extra close attention. Makes it feel like you were there.

10. A Win - The game isn't perfect unless your team wins...

So that's my thoughts on how you can make a perfect game. Put them all together and you not only have the perfect game, but the perfect expeirence. That would be just amzing to have. I am the happiest ever if I can just get some tickets.

Friday Five

Well, this is my first real post. Just thought I'd do the Friday Five: here goes...

What's the last thing you bought yourself, just for fun?
I don't even know. I havn't done much shopping since Xmas.

How many keys do you carry?
I don't really carry any. I have a code to unlock my garage, so I don't need a house key; I don't have a car, so I wouldn't need car keys; so all I really carry around is my cell phone.

If you had to sell your soul for one thing, what would it be?
If I had to sell my soul, it would probably be to get tickets to a Stanley Cup so I could witness the Sabres winning it.

What is one talent or skill you don't have but always wanted?
I always wanted to be able to fly? No, I always admired people who can perform on stage really well. I can't sing, dance or act, I just sorta stick with sports.

If you could have the world's largest collection of one thing, what would it be?
Probably something ridiculous. Oh, I know. I would have the largest collection of signed and worn NHL jerseys. That would be pretty sweet.

Hey, I'm Paige and I'm the latest addition to hlog. Just so you can get to know me better, here are my answers to the questionnaire!

1. Where you're from, what you do - basic things.

I'm a born and raised Buffalo girl. I don't live in the city, but I do live in one of the suburbs. You'll be amazed how much the Sabres affect the community. The day after a Sabres win, the whole town seams to be glowing.I have a lot of hobbies, especially sports. I've never played hockey, but I'm definitely interested. It may seem girly (but after all it is a ladies site) but I did figure skate for a while when I was younger. I'm finally learning how to ski, after living in the "snow belt" for my entire life. My favorite sport though is cross country running. I recently started and am now the best on my team. I don't really like it when I'm actually running, but I love the way I feel when I'm done. I also play electric guitar and am part of many clubs at my school, even the yearbook committee and once the newspaper where I learned to write articles.

2. Your team and why you like them.

My team is the Buffalo Sabres. I love the Sabres because they are exciting to watch. They are a young and fast team that is sort of a Cinderella Story. (Cinderella + hockey?) Last year they weren't even expected to make the playoffs, much less the conference finals. Even in the finals, it went to the seventh game vs. the Carolina Hurricanes. Also, the team is young and is a team of break-out stars. I have often skipped school dances, doctor's appointments, sports practices and other commitments to watch the games! By the way- totally worth it. Lol

3. Your least favourite team and why?

I'm not sure, there is that whole rivalry between the Leafs, and the Hurricanes did take the cup away from us... but I'll have to say that I hate the Ottawa Senators the most. Somehow they have managed to figure us out and have already caused nearly half of our regulation losses. Now if only we could figure them out!

4. Your favourite player of all time & now?

I don't really know who my favorite player of all time is because I haven't been a hockey fanatic too long, so it might just be the same as my current favorite--- Maxim Afinogenov. I know, I know... EVERYONE loves Afinogenov. But he is a "classic Russian speedster" and he scores all the time. People laugh at me because I get so happy when they just show him on the bench!I've been trying and trying to get a jersey, but he has the second best selling jersey in the league so it's impossible to find one. Currently there is a five month waiting list until you get one... plus they cost nearly a hundred dollars. But I did manage to find a plain jersey. It doesn't have a name and I did manage to fit into a kids size large for 50 bucks. God, you probably don't care. Well, he just makes hockey for me. Plus, as a girl, he is pretty hot. I also love Danny Briere and Ryan Miller.

5. If you had to punch one hockey player or member of the NHL Organization, who and why?

I would have to punch Scott Nichol, of the Nashville Predators. I like the Nashville Predators as a whole (I miss you JP Dumont...). But when the Sabres were creaming the Predators 7-2, Nichols sucker-punched Jeroslav Spacek. Spacek is probably my one of the players on my team that I don't care for (this guy is really ugly), but they think he actually passed out. Nichols punched him in the face from behind and then yanked him backwards, hard, to the ground. Immediately, my team got into a large fight, but surprisingly no one got a penalty except for Nichols who got a nine game suspension. (Take that, Scott) So, for the team's sake, I would punch Scott Nichols in a second. Can you blame me?

6 What you'll be looking forward in this group blog.

Well, if I can find anyone to talk about hockey to, I'll take it. I really want to see other women's perspective on hockey too. I've heard "You just think Afinogenov is hot..." way to many times. Also, if I could write to some people who know what I'm talking about and take me seriously I would be so, so, so happy!

7. What you don't like in general?

1. I don't like guys who don't take hockey girls seriously. 2.I don't like rude comments from other teams that are really just jealous. 3.And most of all, I hate having so much homework that I have to do it during a hockey game.

8. What role do female fans play in keeping the game alive?

If you really think about it, females have the possibility of doubling the NHL's fan base. The Buffalo Sabres have really done well at attracting females to the team by showing the player's more personal sides and also the Sabres' wives have a group that many females find pretty cool. Plus, girls can show their friends pictures of hot hockey players and draw them into loving the game...!

9. What role do female fans play in picking heroes for the community?

I think women like to watch players move up in professional hockey and watch them learn. They also look at teams more as individual players who we like for individual reasons. Men look at their favorite team as one. Sometimes they'll say (for instance) "Wow, we aren't having a good power play tonight, I think I know what they'll be practicing this week!" While women, on the other hand, will say "Wow, Lydman isn't having a great game tonight, especially on the power play. He needs to work on cleaner passes." Women look at the game of hockey more individually and pay more attention to details. They also choose players who aren't just good at hockey. They look at the more personal side of sports. It's a shame that some real morons will be hailed as "amazing" just because they are good at hockey, even ifthey badmouth other players or something like that.

10. Hockey just isn't the same without...

Hockey just isn't the same with out Canada. Canada really brought the whole sport to North America. Plus, without them, what teams would we have to hate?

11. If you were on a deserted island, which player would you pick to stay with you?

I would have Ryan Miller stay with me. I would have Maxim Afinogenov, but I can hardly understand what he is saying because of his Russian accent, and that could get extremely frustrating. Miller is a corky guy who I would be interested in talking to. Plus, he is a really deep thinker and would probably think of some way for us to escape.

12. Crosby, Ovechkin or Phaneuf (hey he tried!)?

I would have to choose Crosby. I don't really like Phaneuf and Ovechkin has a real rivalry with my man Briere. Crosby really is amazing. Did you know that scouts were looking at him when he was only 14?! Plus, he is pretty hot and I'm so close to his age that we could be dating...!

13. The player you'd like to take for a grand night out/a movie/a boring event?

Grand Night Out- I would Daniel Briere out because he seems really easy to talk to, nice and polite. Plus, I think he'd look cute in a tux.

A Movie- I would take Ryan Miller to a movie. He seems difficult to talk to, so a movie would be easy because we wouldn't have to talk. Plus, he'd be able to pay since he makes millions of dollars a season. I just hope he wouldn't take me to a horror flick; his favorite movie is "The Grudge".

A Boring Event- I would have to take Marty Biron to a boring event. Biron talks a lot and Briere once told an interviewer that Biron kept him up until three A.M until Briere finally convinced him that they should go to bed when they roomed together during an away game. I think Marty could make any event more fun, mostly because I could just laugh when ever he talked during a speech or something.

14. If you could make your own team, regardless of whatever players, what would it be called and where will it be/how would it be like?

I think I would keep my team in Buffalo and call them the Buffalo Flakes...(I don't know, we do live in the Snow Belt..?) Also, all of the players would be the same as the Buffalo Sabres. Plus, they would go on my team for free, because I can't anywhere near afford their salaries. Gosh, these kinds of questions make me feel stupid!

Well, thanks for giving me a chance. If you're reading this you actually made it to the end. I'll be surprised if you pick me because I blab WAY too much. Hope you do and thanks for the time.

Thanks again,
Paige
