IT'S DONE!

Be aware that I might not be able to report picks immediately; I might be making a sandwich, feeding my cat, getting yelled out or what not. If you see that I have not reported the last pick and you are due to pick next, just send me two of your top names. This is just to be sure that your pick isn't the same as the previous pick. Keep an eye on this thread; I will report all picks here.

If you are not going to be available for the time that your pick is due, send me a list of, at least, ten of your top names. I will report the top name that hasn't been picked yet.

Here are some scouting links, if you need resources:
http://www.nhlentrydraft2008.com/Default.aspx
http://www.nhl.com/futures/2008/index.html
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/

* Please be aware of dates; rounds 6 and 7 occur on the same day.

** Picks are due BY the time stated and keep in mind that all times are EST.

*** I know this is a hassle in some ways but starting at 6:00 I would like everyone to report a pick along with x number of other possible picks if your pick is already taken (X-number of picks refers to the amount of teams that have passed since the last reported pick, this is so we don't have any double picks). Go Wolves! :)

I apologize for the massiveness of this post, the 'Read More' code got messed up, I tried to fix it and now there is a massive scattering of /span codes and to which source codes they go to, I have no clue.

I take back what I said about Gaineyism

Due to my recent emotional trauma, caused by watching Angelo Esposito get passed up by the Habs at the #12 pick, I am totally forced to convert away from Gaineyism, and am currently left without a sports figure to worship. Maybe Eric Tillman or Kent Austin will leader the Riders to a Grey Cup Championship in November and I'll worship one of them briefly.

In fact, I am so highly traumatized that the only solution I could think of was to get extremely drunk with a bunch of 18 & 19 year olds. Which as we all know, is a solution for and cause of, all of life's problems.

I mean, sure his production dropped off without Radulov, but like, maybe he and Guy Latendresse would like, be good for each other? Put some more points on the board? We could kind of use some more goals.

So, I'm traumatized. Highly.

I actually cried. After dumping Ser-GAY's salary I truly hoped that Gainey had something up his sleeve.

He'd better pull off something huge in the off season, or I might actually pretend to cheer for the Laffs....

Do we have to call him "the reamer"?

Well, we picked our guy. I have a few concerns:

1) He had trouble putting his jersey on. Now I'm no expert at putting on a hockey jersey, but to me, you put one arm in, the other arm in, and then pop your head through the head hole. This character tried to put it on all at once and ended up all tangled up and gangly looking. Sheesh. Put it on like you've done it before buddy!

2) I heard one news organization call him "the reamer". Um, sorry, but I am pretty sure that nickname is taken by a porn star. Choose again.

3) He is from New Jersey, and is a Devils fan. Can he be trusted?

4) Not entirely related, but does Flyers' GM Paul Holmgren have a pulse? I'm down with the poker face guy, but cmon, get a little excited about stuff! (Great job in the off season so far, btw!)

Draft Day #1 - The tales from a girl far away

I've been completely knackered lately, and the last thing I remember was telling people that I would be up bright and early to catch the first round pick of the draft and to also destroy all mankind (I'm looking at you Pronger). However, at 11AM, I slowly woke up from a dreamy slumber dreaming about getting a tattoo (now that is all kinds of crazy) and the Jordi household was treated to her screaming "OH MY GOD I MISSED THE DRAFT!", almost breaking her back slipping on a stray piece of note paper (courtesy of exam preparations) and climbing on the computer to type in addresses that I had known like the back of my hand (allrecipes.com didn't help me at all unfortunately).

And that was how the first round draft started, and then ended for me. It was not as exciting as I hoped. Sister Jordi (who shall be from now on be called Bea) calmed me down from my hysterics ("Look, it's your fault for going out so late at night." "IF I DIDN'T GO OUT WOULD TOSKALA HAVE STAYED!?" -- My sources informed me that yes, if I did not go out that night, Toskala and all order would have been saved) and treated me to lunch. I had the salmon, she had the chicken. I don't think she would really get the draft talk so we exhausted the most important topics before we even started.

As Bea drove me home, she decided that she needed to pick up knitting wool for a charity drive she was doing. In order to cheer me up (I think that was it), she helped me purchase a size 11 set of knitting needles, 100grams of orange wool and 100 grams of blue wool in which she would then teach me to knit a basic scarf. It was at that pitiful moment, when I was convincing her that blue and orange were completely beautiful colours, I realised how much I missed hockey. (because nothing says hard hitting checks and goal scoring like a wool scarf)

The offseason is starting girls (and boys), but everyday I wake up wishing it was over already.

Actual draft-related highlights

  • As Jocelynn said, the poor Russian kid who wanted to play hockey so hard no one drafted him. (except for the Rangers but they're mythical)
  • It was either the water cooler or Angelo Esposito. (I kid, I kid)
  • The five (in total) completely squee-worthy Oilers and Habs picks (Max Pacioretty has a name just begging to be renamed Max Pretty)
  • Oh yeah, that Capitals... thingy with the... Sorry.
So how was your draft day?

Ok girls.

I know it's the off season...but I'm just curious with the Draft coming up and what not...what you think your team is going to be looking for. Are they going for a goalie? A blue liner? Just curious.

More info on the Draft

Here is the article that Dispatch put out on the Draft.

Lots of fans, festivities expected for big event

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The Blue Jackets own the No. 7 pick in the NHL entry draft, but they're already on the clock.

It's exactly one month until the hockey world gathers in Columbus to welcome the next wave of talent into the NHL. The first round will be held at

7 p.m. June 22 in Nationwide Arena; rounds two through seven will begin at 10 a.m. the following day.

"We're almost ready for the party," said J.D. Kershaw, the Blue Jackets' director of fan development and the point man to the NHL since the draft was awarded to the Blue Jackets more than a year ago.

Here's what's known about "the party" at this point:

• The pop punk band Yellowcard will perform in the plaza in front of Nationwide Arena in the hours leading up to the first pick on Friday.

• It's going to be a big party on Friday. Kershaw isn't sure how big, but he's hoping it's "standing room-only" inside the arena, with a large contingent outside. The Blue Jackets had 12,000-plus requests for tickets through their Web site, and another roughly 11,500 were given to season-ticket holders. The biggest "south of the border" draft crowd in recent memory was 11,000 in Raleigh, N.C., in 2004.

• The plaza in front of Nationwide on Friday will be packed with food and beverage stands, interactive games, etc. Nationwide Boulevard between Front Street and Marconi Boulevard will be blocked to allow spill-over and easy foot traffic.

• The Blue Jackets have yet to decide whether they want to air live draft coverage by TSN or Versus on the huge TV screen that looms over the plaza. The dilemma: If people get too comfortable on the plaza and know they can watch the draft outside, why go inside? The Jackets want the building packed so it looks good on TV.

• Nationwide Arena will open at 4 p.m., with a Hall of Fame Trophy display -- including the Stanley Cup -- and a memorabilia exhibit on the concourse. Season ticket-holders can begin taking their seats at 5:30 p.m., and the general public can fill in around 6:15 p.m. The covered ice surface will be filled with the stage on one end, draft tables for all 30 clubs in the middle, and the media riser on the other end.

"Unless the fire marshal steps in, we won't turn anybody away, even if they don't have a ticket," NHL director of events and entertainment Bill Miller said. "The sense I'm getting is we'll continue the trend of doing well in newer markets, similar to Nashville (2003) and Raleigh, N.C. The key is getting those people who stuffed their tickets into a drawer to dig them out and come on down."

The Blue Jackets are resigned to the fact that the Saturday crowd will be smaller.

"Probably in the 4,000 to 5,000 range if we're lucky," Kershaw said. "Most of our budget is going into Friday."

But the Blue Jackets will have autograph sessions on Saturday morning -- both with draft picks and current Jackets players -- to entice fans.

The Draft!!!

Ok, so since I have been slacking off really bad on posting over here I decided to toss up a post on the draft...it's going to be at Nationwide Arena on, June 22-23.
