Best of the worst

Watching the Capitals-Bruins game today, I was struck by a particularly bad commercial. This one was Ovechkin, talking about his "passion". It was cringe worthy, and I dont even cringe when Ovechkin shows up in public dressed like a colorblind costume designer vomited clothes onto him. Which he does, a lot.

But it got me thinking about the best of the worst NHL commercials. Every team has got a few, where you can tell that a nice player agreed to do the commercial, and is miserably uncomfortable the entire time. Or best yet, when they know they are better hockey players then actors and just have fun with it.

Here is the Ovie one thats pretty terrible, but makes me laugh anyway:

Then of course there is the Martin Havlat crack up...and we aren't even talking about one of his limbs! Ca-ching. The Penguins round out the top of the list with this commercial, which produced the cringe laugh from me (squinty eyes with a snort laugh).

And then there is this Kings commercial, which is a classic. Easily the best of the worst.

I know that all hockey fans have your team faves, and I've got to be missing some, so please share in the comments!

I just posted this one on my blog this morning, it's Phil Kessel rapping for the Bruins.

This is my first adventure with tinyurl.com, so I'm sorry if it doesn't work.

The ovie one isn't too bad. They're at least trying to make him look tough...

I have to say I love the Blackhawks commercials...you can tell they're all awkward...but they're still entertaining.

The other two...I was on the floor dieing. Malkin didn't even say anything.

I say, the stupidest one I've seen is Tuomo Ruutu's. I love the man...but this just doesn't make sense.

I find this funny simply because I had a dream last night where I met Alex Ovechkin at a party or something. We got to talking and I mentioned that I was looking for a new refrigerator (in real life I'm not) because I was moving in with someone and I didn't know if they had one, He said something like, "Oh, I just got a new one, I can give you my old one" and I was all, "nah, you don;t have to do that for me, I just met you..." A few days latter in dream time, there was a delivery of a fridge with a hand-scrawled note from Ovie! It was great.

ovie sounds like he's "straight off the boat from the mother land..."

the pens commercial still makes me laugh even though it's been beaten to death around here. but hey that's what we do with sports topics in the 'burgh...

The NHL just needs to stop trying so hard to be cool. These commercials are dumb and impress no one.

My boss just popped in to ask why I was having such a good time at work. This was in reaction to me laughing my ASS off over some of those commercials. Shouldnt we have a list somewhere? Or a blog...badnhlcommercials.com

j.t. that 7-up commercial is priceless. Now whenever I see footage of Gretzky on the bench looking serious and coach-ly (?) that's all I'll think of.
