The Blues scored early. 33 seconds into the second frame Brad Boyes(McDonald, Oshie) 167 footer found landed in Toskala’s twine.

Ryan Hollweg’s return from a two game suspension was brief. He was assessed 5:00 for boarding and a game misconduct(this will automatically be reviewed by the NHL) Hollweg just came back from serving a two game suspension for his third boarding major.

The penalty cost Toronto two goals. Patrik Berglund notched his first NHL goal at 4:47, assisted by David Perron and Steve Wagner. 48 seconds later Keith Tkachuk(Andy McDonald, Paul Kariya) snapped one past Vesa Toskala from 30 feet out. Tkachuk now has 4 PP markers in 4 games.


13:18 – Toskala had to deal with another melee – six bodies in his face and another save while splayed in the crease.

Period two was chipper than the first 20 minutes with 4 minors, a double minor, and Hollweg’s boarding major plus game misconduct.

Niklas Hagman’s goal at 14:00 had many firsts. It was Hagman’s first of the season, first as a Leaf, John Mitchell’s first NHL point, and Jamal Mayer’s first as a Leaf.

The Leafs had a 2 man advantage for 46 seconds with Andy McDonald in the sin bin(4:00 for high-sticking) and Jay McClement off for tripping but could not capitalize. Despite continued pressure, the Leafs fired the puck all around the net without getting it in.
