NOT a Puck Bunny!!

Let me start by saying that I don't have a problem with having a site dedicated to hockey (and such) eye candy. My goodness, I helped run a Hottie Hockey Dreamy Team contest all summer. But when myself and my HLOG sisters are listed on the blogroll as "knowledgeable puckbunnies" I may or may not flip out. Sweetie, adding "knowledgeable" does not make it better or nicer or even okay. We at HLOG take pride in NOT being puck bunnies but being hockey fans who know our sport. As female fans we have to fight a little harder to maintain our credibility and integrity amongst those who think that because we're girls, we must be puck bunnies. In fact, as a female fan who knows her stuff (like all of us here) it is completely insulting when labeled as a bunny. So I thank you for the link on your blogroll, but if it includes the label of "Puck Bunny" then I request I not be included on your list. Thank you.

Yeah, whoa there, sister. Can somebody dig out that puckbunny v. fangirl post from eons ago and ship that this chick's way too?

Oh dear. My blood pressure would have jumped seeing my blog on a roll so-labeled, too. Good gracious.

Can we call a truce?! THANKS for the plug, by the way. This was in NO WAY intended to cause such a stir in the female hockey blogger community!! I consider myself a part of this sisterhood too!

Stephanie

@teka - I already read the post; in the context it's used, my reference to "puck bunny" is no more insulting than your calling me a "chick!"

@ms. conduct - from the sounds of your post it seems as though it wouldn't take much for your blood pressure to jump (chill).

We ALL need to chill! I would say "attacking" me like alot of you have today gives the guys just as much ammunition as the reasons behind "puck bunny" do (you know, the "cat fight" thing) - do we really need to continue this? I, for one, don't feel the need to.

Honestly Stephanie, I think that it's just a poor choice of titles to tag yourself and others with. If you've been following Hlog for any length of time (which you indicate you have) you should be aware that most, if not all of us object vociferously to being typed as "puckbunnies."

If you're trying to 'reclaim' the phrase, more power to you, but I have my fears you're in for an uphill battle, as there's a large "want to sleep with players" community that lives up to the stereotypical "puckbunny" standards that already calls themselves that. On the other side, you have groups like Hlog, where we try to shy away as much as possible from the term and all it usually stands for, so there's not much common ground for reclamation in there.

I understand your insistence that in context, it's harmless, but I think it's just such a loaded term within the female fan community and in the greater hockey community that you're not going to make very much headway with many of us, and you're going to have a hard time being taken 'seriously', if that's what you eventually want.

I never heard of the label 'puckbunny' until just a few months ago. I'm glad I didn't use it in my novel -- it would've eliminated half my audience!

I've been a hockey fan since I was seven years old, back in the dark ages when Lafleur still flew down the ice, his hair streaming behind him.

Sure, I admit I had my little crushes on mullet-haired wingers in my youth, but never saw any female hockey fan as a puckbunny. Guys have to realize that we love the game for the game's sake, not just because hockey players have so much testosterone oozing from their pores.

@ Teka FTW!! :)

I know this is a bit unrelated, but I thought I would second having crushes on mullet-haired wingers as a child.

Hey, this is basically what I'm writing my MA thesis on... I just released my know-it-all inner academic.

I'm really not offended at all. The term means zilch to me. I think that 'puck bunny' is funny (LOL - Funny Bunny).

Ok, I'm done.

I'm a bit torn.

Of course I don't want to be associated with the no-nothings, or with the playboy-bunny-who-loves-hockey-player-meat type, but am I overly offended by the word? No, if used in the right context. Is the "b" word commonly used to refer to females offensive among friends? No. At the same time, is the derogatory terms used for black people or Hispanic people ever OK? Even if it's used as within that group of people? I'm not sure about that, either.

I'm not overly offended. If it was a male blogger using the term, though, I might be. Depends. That doesn't seem to fair, either, though.
