The Monday Fifteen!

Because Jordi is three days late, she will increase the awesomeness three-fold! Okay okay, I kid. But hopefully this will distract you while I sell all your identities to Nigerian conmen.

  1. Five songs which described your pain and emotion throughout the last season!
  2. How are you getting your hockey fix?
  3. Your owner decides that your team will relocate, however one player will be voted to stay to head a new expansion team to replace yours. Who will you pick?
  4. Name a hockey item you bought/received that you wish you could refund.
  5. What's the last book/movie you read/saw? Was it good?
  6. The last fan you saw who made you go grr? (any sport)
  7. Desert island movies (5?). Name them.
  8. You just hit the player you hated the most with a car! Do you stop and help them? Or move on and claim he barely touched you?
  9. Baseball is on, who would you root for - even if you don't follow the game?
  10. Speaking of baseball, what hockey players would you put on your team?
  11. Do you say soccer or football? Do you even care?
  12. Talk about your work... Or why you can't/wont find work. Or alternatively, talk about the subjects you just took recently in class.
  13. You're approached to write a book on anything you want by a publisher. Tell us about it.
  14. The Leafs want your goalie! What do you do!?
  15. What's another hobby you have? Do you secretly have an obsession over something NOT hockey?
You are free to dedicate some questions to their own seperate post if you'd like to go into detail (like the movies/book questions and if you have a funny story about a hockey posession of yours). I bid you girls a good week!

1. Going with all-Calgary-arena-rock faves: Trooper's "Raise a Little Hell," "In da 'Dome" (you know, that '04-vintage Flames-specific spoof of "In Da Club"), the Foos' "Best of You", Johnny Cash with "Ring of Fire"... and I can't think of anything else. I didn't get to check out a Flames game in the 'Dome all year...that's the first time in a bit.
2. TV when I can, my invisible friend Dave's TV when I can't, and internet radio all the rest of the time.
3. Iginla. Duh.
4. I now wish I'd put a name/number on my jersey. Oh well. Finding Calgary's old third jersey in a size that fits was hard enough.
5. Book: Iain M. Banks' The Algebraist. It was good, but I started feeling like I wasn't smart enough part of the way through. Even though very little of the book was actually about algebra.
6. There were some people in Buffalo who we probably drove to be a bit too defensive about the home team. It probably didn't help that I was fighting the urge to spew my dinner at the time.
7. Fight Club, Kissing Jessica Stein, Farewell My Concubine, The Incredibles, Lord of Rings, all eleventy-billion hours of the extended edition...
8. End of the day, we're all human. Stop and help.
9. The Mariners, 'cause they were closest geographically when I was growing up. Screw this business about Toronto being Canada's team ;)
10. I'm the kind of fan to whom it doesn't really matter. If you're on my team, you're mine
11. No, I don't care. Football when I'm with people that it matters to, soccer all the rest of the time.
12. Um. Work. I test software like databases and email servers to ensure they don't break in the hands of customers. I'm quitting in a month to go back to school to do a masters', finally.
13. You know Microserfs, by Douglas Coupland? Somethin' like that...story of my life, sigh.
14. I would flip the Leafs a bird. And utter the words, "Over my dead body." Stuff like that.
15. Um. I knit, I geek out, I cook. Life is good.

For hobbies, a lot of us cook and do needlework of some sort. We should do a headcount, and start putting the HLOG Cafe together ;)

1. Drunken Lullabies by Flogging Molly. Whenever I listen to the song I want to go on a drinking binge and hit everything in sight. Exactly how I felt after the Kings' past season.

2. By writing about the Kings on my purple blog.

3. Anze Kopitar. Love him!

4. The book, "The Code". The writing is pretty terrible. Any writing, English, or creative writing majors read it?

5. Just saw "Knocked Up". Fantasticly funny.

6. Fan? Gee, I don't know.

7. Movies...Zoolander, Miracle, Love Actually, Elf, Knocked Up (can't wait till it comes out on DVD)

8. I bet I could hit Pronger on the 405 or PCH.

9. My boyfriend would kill me, but the Bo Sox. My dad is a big fan and it's rubbed off on me. What can I say, I'm still daddy's little girl.

10. I would put Vinny on my team. What with all the standing around in baseball it would be so easy to just stare at him all game long.

11. I'm from America so I say soccer.

12. I'm a transportation engineer. We try to make the roadways better. I use CADD software almost every day and every now and then I get to walk around the project site and get honked at. Makes me understand what it would be like to work the corner.

13. It would be a romantic comedy involving a hockey player.

14. Pay them to take Cloutier.

15. Does watching TV count? Or collecting hockey cards (which I did before I realized it was a money pit). Or how about playing Wii? I do like to cook...that's a hobby, right?

Leanne, HLOG Cafe? Count me in!

Ooh, this one has the potential to be a long comment thread...and I love it! What a great way to spend my lunch hour :)

1. "Only the Strong Survive" by Bryan Adams, "The Finish Line" by Snow Patrol, "So High So Low" by Ben Harper, "Daylight" by Better Than Ezra, and "Back in Black" by AC/DC (only because that's what they played when the Caps came out for warmups...is there a song called "Back in Red White and Blue"?)
2. Luckily I just got to see my boys up close and personal so that took care of me for now, but other than that I'm obsessively watching highlights and interviews on YouTube.
3. OVECHKIN. Double Duh.
4. During my brief flirtation with the Leafs back in high school I got a t-shirt as a gift... ;)
5. Last book I read was The Widow of the South by Robert Hicks. Wonderful, fascinating book - loved it. I'm really behind on my movies, I have a list of about 10 I want to see.
6. I was watching the draft coverage and they showed a guy in a Crosby jersey. GRRRRRR. (Oh, and I didn't see this but I heard
7. The Cutting Edge, The Philadelphia Story, Beauty and the Beast, A Hard Day's Night, Miracle, and Slapshot. That's right, I did six. Sue me. :)
8. I would stop and help widdle Crosby, only because if I didn't he'd whine to the cops and Gary Roberts would come try to beat me up with his walker.
9. NATS, BABY! *Sigh* I really can't win.
10. Brian Sutherby and Chris Clark - both apparently have mad baseball skills.
11. Soccer...but no, I don't care.
12. I work for two non-profit associations, running their day to day operations and helping to plan and run their annual conferences. Sounds exciting, doesn't it?
13. How about a book on how to pretend you know what you're doing? That's the story of my life.
14. Olie's fought the Leafs before, I have no doubt he could punch them in the schnozz and make them back off. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG8ieoiftfY ...oh, Olie, I heart you)
15. I don't really have patience for actual hobbies - I do have a DVD addiction and a secret obsession (well, not so secret now) with the Beatles.

CapsChick said...

Oops - on #6 I kind of trailed off there. What I was going to say was I heard that someone saw a fan at the Caps draft day party in a Caps jersey and a Penguins hat. Now that is one confused person.

1. Five songs which described your pain and emotion throughout the last season!
Opening Night: "Your F**king Sunny Day", Lambchop
October/November dirge-like loses: "Violence", Low
All-Star Break Sid-o-rama: "Anthems of a Seventeen Year Old Girl", Broken Social Scene
March spate of injuries: "To Cure A Weakling Child", Aphex Twin
Post Game 5 Elimination: "Thank You for the Music", ABBA

2. How are you getting your hockey fix?
Why, by listing the reasons we love hockey and hanging out in the crazy comment threads over at IPB, of course! (And playing lots of Katamari Damacy. And sampling lots of different kinds of cocktails.)

3. Your owner decides that your team will relocate, however one player will be voted to stay to head a new expansion team to replace yours. Who will you pick?
Marty Brodeur is the safe choice. But we'd pick Jay Pandolfo. Just because we're still Devils fans, yo.

4. Name a hockey item you bought/received that you wish you could refund.
Bobby Holik's autograph.

5. What's the last book/movie you read/saw? Was it good?
"The Queen". It was good, but hardly staggeringly great.

6. The last fan you saw who made you go grr? (any sport)
This dude in a green t-shirt sitting next to the Ducks penalty box during Game 2 of the SCF. He just would not sit down!

7. Desert island movies (5?). Name them.
"Master & Commander, The Far Side Of The World", "The Bourne Supremacy", "The Cutting Edge", "Intermission", "L.A. Confidential"

8. You just hit the player you hated the most with a car! Do you stop and help them? Or move on and claim he barely touched you?
We were about to answer, "Of course we'd stop!" but then we imagined Darcy Tucker lying, grievously wounded, in the street. And in our minds we sped away, grinning from ear to ear.

9. Baseball is on, who would you root for - even if you don't follow the game?
We root for our brain cells to rapidly decompose so we would no longer have to be watching baseball.

10. Speaking of baseball, what hockey players would you put on your team?
Only players we hate, because we'd never be able to scrub the mental image of them playing baseball from our brains, and we don't want to sully our opinions of the players we love that way.

11. Do you say soccer or football? Do you even care?
Soccer, only because it confuses Americans otherwise.

12. Talk about your work... Or why you can't/wont find work. Or alternatively, talk about the subjects you just took recently in class.
Pookie is a librarian. Schnookie is a secretary. Together, we make a fantastic pair of spinster sisters.

13. You're approached to write a book on anything you want by a publisher. Tell us about it.
It would be a compliation of IPB's best game diaries, and it would be titled after one of our favorite search terms "Different Parts of Interchangeable Parts". It would, of course, be a best seller.

14. The Leafs want your goalie! What do you do!?
The Leafs want Scott Clemmensen? They're more than welcome.

15. What's another hobby you have? Do you secretly have an obsession over something NOT hockey?
We both enjoy needlework as a hobby. See: Question 12.

1) Five songs which described your pain and emotion throughout the last season!
"Ready to Run" Dixie Chicks, "If You Can Dream" Ashley Gearing, "Top of the World" The Carpenters, "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" Pat Benatar, "Gone" *NSYNC

2) How are you getting your hockey fix?
DVR'd hockey games, readying myself for the big Canada Day bash on Sunday and catching some beer league tourneys here and there

3) Your owner decides that your team will relocate, however one player will be voted to stay to head a new expansion team to replace yours. Who will you pick?
Jonathan Cheechoo - b/c Joe Tornton is coming with the team up to Portland, OR. ;o)

4) Name a hockey item you bought/received that you wish you could refund.
The Cowbell my secret santa gave me a few years ago. I'm not a cowbell-ing fan. I just bang on the glass.

5) What's the last book/movie you read/saw? Was it good?
The last movie I saw was Tarzan on the Disney Channel yesterday morning. Brought me to tears yet again.

6) The last fan you saw who made you go grr? (any sport)
The guy at Key Arena who set off the stinkbomb at the last playoff game in the series against the ams.

7)Desert island movies (5?). Name them.
Life or Something Like It, Miracle, Pride and Prejudice (A&E version), Mean Girls, Napoleon Dynamite.

8) You just hit the player you hated the most with a car! Do you stop and help them? Or move on and claim he barely touched you?
Did I hit HIM or his car? Either way I'd stop... no need to end up like a sober Mark Bell

9) Baseball is on, who would you root for - even if you don't follow the game?
The Mariners... unless I'm watching with the Roomie, then it's the Yankees so she doesn't kick my butt - she's freakishly strong.

10) Speaking of baseball, what hockey players would you put on your team?
LOL! Right I'm the WRONG person to ask that question. My sister explains me as a sports anomaly - I can tell you anythign you want to know about Hockey - rules, calls, regulations, plays, etc. But any other sport just baffles me and I can't wrap my head around it.

11) Do you say soccer or football? Do you even care?
I say "fooooootbal" to make the distinction... and then explain soccer for everyone who doesn't know my sense of humor.

12) Talk about your work... Or why you can't/wont find work. Or alternatively, talk about the subjects you just took recently in class.
I work at a desk all day. I do (or have a hand in) every single bit of paperwork that comes into this building. I answer the phones, answer the email, order the flowers, scan the pictures, put everything together and do light cleaning between visits from the janitorial crew. My mom works here too, but on-call. I'm usually the only one here, so I bring my lunch every day. I play on the intermanet a LOT b/c I get my work done pretty quick. I miss being a nurse.

13) You're approached to write a book on anything you want by a publisher. Tell us about it.
Hockey Smut novel. The world has a few, needs MANY MANY more.

14) The Leafs want your goalie! What do you do!?
Hand him over on a silver platter, throw in Mark Bell and recieve a 1st Round draft pick in return. *open wound... salt... rub... ow.*

15) What's another hobby you have? Do you secretly have an obsession over something NOT hockey?
Disney: Land. World. Movies. Toys. Blankets. Princesses. Music. (i think you get the point, hey?)

This is going to be so long. I apologize in advance for anyone silly enough to try and read it. :)

Five songs which described your pain and emotion throughout the last season!
Oh god, right off the bat you give me a tough one. At the beginning of the season, I had "High Hopes". Then the injury bug bit us hard and I thought "It's Over". We came back for a bit, had our awesome winning streak and I was thinking it had been a "Long Time Coming". Then we nosedived and playoffs were completely out of the picture and I felt that we were so "Close Yet Far". Then the season officially ended and at the last game I felt like I had "Nothing Left to Show". Ok, those aren't exactly the songs I felt but they made a great little story.

How are you getting your hockey fix?
YouTube!! Haha. Not only that but all of you bloggers keep it alive for me. Go you. Hug yourselves for me.

Your owner decides that your team will relocate, however one player will be voted to stay to head a new expansion team to replace yours. Who will you pick?
Doan. No question. I should pick Michalek or Ballard but I won't.

Name a hockey item you bought/received that you wish you could refund.
So far I really haven't gotten anything that I wish to return. Although I wish the jersey I just got for my birthday was a smaller size...

What's the last book/movie you read/saw? Was it good?
I went and saw Knocked Up in the theatre. Hilarious. I laughed my butt off the whole movie (except when I cried). Book? I think was some random trashy romance. :)

The last fan you saw who made you go grr? (any sport)
Ok, so I love Nagy (cue booing and hissing). The last game that we played Dallas a friend of mine went in a shirt that said, "Bring Back Nagy" and we seriously almost got in a fight with some old guy who was trashing him hard. I never wanted to knock out an old persons dentures more in my life.

Desert island movies (5?). Name them.
Crap... Rent, Mystery Alaska, Mighty Ducks 2 (what can I say, I always had a thing for Luis), The Lion King & Crybaby.

You just hit the player you hated the most with a car! Do you stop and help them? Or move on and claim he barely touched you?
Screw him, he's on his own... lol. I'm kidding, I would help.

Baseball is on, who would you root for - even if you don't follow the game?
The Mets. I know the catcher. Lol! Or if he got on my nerves too much, I would go hometown and chant DBacks! I know we lose all the time but I'm a Coyotes fan, I'm used to that...

Speaking of baseball, what hockey players would you put on your team?
My baseball team? There's nine right? Laraque & Doan because they were having an impromptu hockeyball game at one practice after Doan broke his stick. Laraque would hurl pucks at him and Doan would bat them away... it was great fun. Other than that, it doesn't matter. I just want them for entertainment in case we lose.

Do you say soccer or football? Do you even care?
I don't care. But normally we would say soccer. I prefer to be different and say football with an English accent... just cause I'm weird like that.

Talk about your work... Or why you can't/wont find work. Or alternatively, talk about the subjects you just took recently in class.
Way to make me feel like crap... I don't work right now because I am lazy and I don't have that drive right now to go out and look for a job.

You're approached to write a book on anything you want by a publisher. Tell us about it.
I would have no idea. I have too many ideas.

The Leafs want your goalie! What do you do!?
I say good. Then I tell them I want theirs (the newest, duh). Alternatively, I tell them I want my No Panic Yanic back...

What's another hobby you have? Do you secretly have an obsession over something NOT hockey?
People actually like things outside hockey? What's the matter with them? Haha. I like reading and I like music & movies. That's really it. :)

How are you getting your hockey fix?

The draft helped. I have some games that I will watch when I transfer them from VHS to DVD and I'll probably watch Miracle again. And Slapshot...one week into my summer vacation and I am already bored.

Your owner decides that your team will relocate, however one player will be voted to stay to head a new expansion team to replace yours. Who will you pick?

That would suck but I'd pick Vlasic. If you'd asked this last week I would have said Toskala.

Name a hockey item you bought/received that you wish you could refund.
Nothing. There is nothing I'd return.

What's the last book/movie you read/saw? Was it good?
I read You Suck by Christopher Moore. It was so funny I've read it about 5 times already.
Today I saw Evan Almighty. It was cute.

The last fan you saw who made you go grr? (any sport)
The people who sat in front of my friend that got all pissed when he politely asked them not to lean forward. They got all hostile and the wife actually tried to get up and complain to the ushers. I think the hubby must have realized they were in the wrong because he stopped her. They did not lean forward again but made rude remarks about it all game.

Desert island movies (5?). Name them.

Slapshot, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Big Easy, Office Space, The Long, Hot Summer

You just hit the player you hated the most with a car! Do you stop and help them? Or move on and claim he barely touched you?

Stop and help. I have a conscience.

Baseball is on, who would you root for - even if you don't follow the game?

Despise baseball. Don't root for anyone, ever.

Speaking of baseball, what hockey players would you put on your team?

See previous answer.
Do you say soccer or football? Do you even care?

Football, of course. Don't care for the sport except in the fabulous world of Footballers Wives on the BBC!

Talk about your work... Or why you can't/wont find work. Or alternatively, talk about the subjects you just took recently in class.

I have taught 3rd grade for 7 years. I am getting moved to 1st grade in the fall. I have a lot of trepidation about that because I just don't think I'll connect with 1st graders the way I do with 3rd graders. And I have all those 3rd grade materials and books that will go to waste. I love 3rd grade literature and a lot will have to get packed away. And 1st graders are so little. Whatever happens, I will have a strict no shoe tying policy.

You're approached to write a book on anything you want by a publisher. Tell us about it.

Hmmm, how about a book on the evils of the textbook industry. A very well marketed book that a wide audience would actually read.

The Leafs want your goalie! What do you do!?

OMG, this already happened! They got him...I feel pouty.

What's another hobby you have? Do you secretly have an obsession over something NOT hockey?

Not a secret: I love to knit. It is equal to my hockey obsession.

This is what pisses me off for us all being so far away, if we were close we'd all be having a get together night of Miracle and maybe the WHOLE Mighty Ducks Trilogy. Yeah that's right, we'd even make drinking games, and for the non-drinkers maybe some little finger food! Now I'm just imagining the HLOG summer house: Where every hockey fan is welcome (no wait, some).

Jordi said...

Fine K.Le, how about the Habs want your goalie. Or the worst team on your list?

Schnookie said...

Jordi, I want to see a combat screening of "The Cutting Edge" added to the HLOG Summer House. Where you race to be the first to reel off a line before it's spoken in the movie. Uh, not that Pookie and I do that... (I'm sad to see CapsChick is the only other person with that on their list. Where's the "Cutting Edge" love, people?)

Marie said...

Pookie, I love the Cutting Edge, but it's not in my Top 5. It's right up there with the first (and best) Mighty Ducks. I was watching House last season (or the season before that) and DB Sweeney was in it looking so not-Cutting Edge-hot. It was very disappointing.

Schnookie said...

Yeah, DB looked WAY worse for the wear when he showed up on "House", didn't he? Oh well. He'll always be Doug Dorsey: The Minnesota Machine in my heart.

CapsChick said...

Ah, The Cutting Edge...classic. Cheesy dialogue, bad acting, horrible hockey choreography - how do you not love it??

Heather B: My favorite Beatle would have to be George, although I do love Paul, too.

Caps, George is my favorite too! How exciting!

1. Ahh, hell that's alot.
2. Blogging like crazy...watching replays of the Finals, etc. etc. rying to keep up on everything going on with my boys and the cup. I think its easier for me, since, we have the Cup this Summer.
3. Of course, I would pic my fav so I could still see him. Sean O'Donnell. He has already had the oppurtunity of moving to an expansion team *Minnesota Wild* and being their first Captain. He is an amazing player, leader & man.
4. I accidentally bought two of the same hockey cards. Other than that I love everything I have.
5. I am currently reading Summer Light by Luanne Rice, which is a romance novel about a hockey player and a wedding planner. It is really good so far.
6. The people who sat by us during playoffs and yelled/flipped off anyone from the opposing team or their fans, whenever something happened.
7. Miracle, 50 First Dates, Elf, Mystic Pizza & Love Actually
8. I would leave Dwyane Roloson to lie there in the street, I may actually back up and see if I could do it again. J/K...I would probably help him.
9. Anaheim Angels, of course. Probably only cause they play across the street from the Ducks, and I was forced to watch a game, to see the Cup.
10. all of them...it would be fun
11. Dont care...its not hockey.
12. I am a legal secretary in So. Cal. It's fun for the most part, but sometimes it sucks. It doesn't pay enough, and the clients are always grouchy.
13. I would probably try to write a hockey romance novel...cause there aren't many of those out there, and they are always fun to read.
14. Tell em no way. He is here to stay ...do I need to go over there and kick some ***.
15. I love to read, and I blog alot on my personal blog. Other than that, I don't do much. Its just nice to have sometime without anything, since hockey didn't end until 06/06/07 for me. Or really the week after that...after all the parties.
