This is a million sorts of random, but I've been thinking about it for a couple weeks ever since I made a compilation post of mic'd up hockey players singing (badly). I've been praising the sound box guys at the Joe at every game I've been to this season for their top notch choices of when to play particular songs, but I have to admit my favorite is when they find (and proceed to abuse) player-specific clips.
For example every time Robert Lang scores a goal in Detroit this season there's been a rousing chorus of The Chiffons' "He's So Fine" (for the do-lang-do-lang background lines which okay fine I giggle over a little bit there, I admitted it!). I know the New York Rangers have several of these, most notably and amusingly (to me at least since he's probably the only Ranger I follow with any sort of continuity and, well, come on...) "Dschingis Khan" whenever Prucha nabs one (the rationale from what I gather being that the "Hoo! Ha!" sounds like "Pru-cha!").
Anyway most of them are either really clever or at least stupidly entertaining - so how about all your teams, ladies - I'm sure there are more than just these couple right? What's everyone hearing this season?

The only ones I have noticed this year are at Phantoms games. When our goalie Scott Munroe, aka "Muny" makes a great save, they play the Ojays "For the love of money". (the chorus part goes "money money money money...money!") It cracks me up every time!
They also play Lynyrd Skynyrd "Sweet Home Alabama" for Muny, since he comes to us by way of the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
I'll have to listen more closely and see if I can find some others...
My arena is HORRIBLE at playing well-timed songs, at least when someone scores. The only one that comes close is The Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop" (you know "hey, ho - let's go!") for Ovechkin - AO let's go, etc.
They do have a few little fun jumbotron features, like one for Chris Clark with the song "I'm Your Captain" by Grand Funk Railroad, and "That's the Way (I Like It)" for Brooks Laich.
Get it? Laich...Like...clever little rascals.
the night mario lemieux made the announcement to the crowd at Mellon Arena that the Pens would be staying they played Journey's "Don't Stop Believing". i thought that couldn't have been more appropriate : )
