Boys Behaving Badly

First off, I'd like to echo what McP said about Richard Zednik. The good news is that the surgery was fine and a spokesperson for the Panthers says he's recovering comfortably at the hospital.

There are some troublemakers on the Habs.

Their mug shots are now available.

And they just called O'Byrne up too, way to embarrass the organization, guys. I say send him back and don't call again.

Lol. Oh boys. And to think, the Staal's were yelling at cars!

What a bunch of sexy boys

who the fuck steals a purse???

Why are you girls (i.e. tracy, bethany and whoever else) giving them a free pass because they're "boys"? Why is it okay if "boys" are troublemakers? That's stupid. What they did is bad and dumb and should be taken seriously.

I never gave them a free pass...I said they are sexy boys...it was meant to be a joke. Don't put words in my mouth Shan.

Eh, all good.

Why not find some amusement in the entire situation? You can bet somebody out there will lose their sense of humour for us.

And if it were any of the other big sports, we'd be hearing about steroids, shootings, wife-beatings, dog-torchings...

If the worst our guys can do is steal a purse... life is good.

Criminals aren't sexy. Contrary to popular belief.

Now now everybody, play nice.

As much as grand theft and resisting arrest is not a laughing matter, you have to admit the circumstances surrounding this story are nothing short of bizarre.

Much as I'd guessed, word is that this happens after every rookie dinner...

O'Bryne was told he had to steal a girl's purse and pull off a prank call using her phone...he apparently just didn't do it fast enough, and hasn't watched enough "Keys to the VIP" to talk her into going along with it.

Even the bouncers at the club were like "whatever."

Unfortunately, the cops didn't see it that way. FUBAR!

I think we need to separate intentionally criminal from dumb fun here. And this was plainly in the second category... just boys doing what boys do.

No, ya see! That's just my complaint. There's no rule or anything that says it's okay for boys to be mischievous. They're not "boys", they're grown men and basically public figures now, it's stupid and to laugh about it or to not mind much because 'boys' cause trouble all the time is just inappropriate. There's fun, there's stupid fun, and there's stupid illicit fun and the latter has no place in society. Not every guy has to be an idiot to be cool.

Bethany said...

Okay Shan you're right naughty men...getting drunk and doing stupid stuff in public...horrible...they should be banned for life.

Shan, I see your point and I agree that most people, not just men need to smarten up about how much they drink and the stupid things they do as a result. But really, I think it's our own problem as a society that we old public figures to a higher standard. If you consider the type of culture that professional sports breed, it shouldn't come as a surprise when they end up doing something stupid like that. I almost think it's a good thing for people to see what really does go on with some of these players.

Shan, I think too that your definition of illicit and mine are different. Perspective is everything...I don't see things as black and white anymore, really.

I would be so glad that the young black sheep of my acquaintance had only been caught stealing some girl's purse on a dare. Instead, they've been caught dealing crack and other hard drugs, possessing weaponry they shouldn't have, running with crowds that could have got them in much more trouble.

By comparison...this incident is all innocence. Especially since all that would have happened as a consequence is a crank call... We're not talking cleaning out her house, car, or bank accounts, we're not talking identity theft for other purposes. We're not talking about any permanent harm for those that surround these individuals.

About the only thing the grown men of the Habs and some of those I grew up with have in common is that they were in their young twenties when bad things happened, and that they were dumb/unlucky enough to get caught. There's dumb and stupid, and then there's fun.

Yes, compared to drug dealers and rapists, this was innocent.
I hope I am awarded the Nobel Prize in the category of Not Being Jessica Simpson.

And thank you, Bethany. :)
