As a sister of a hockey player, and a fan of the NHL, this is never something you want to see or have to even say:
My prayers and my thoughts are with Richard Zednik, his family, friends, teammates, the entire Florida Panthers Organization and their fans.

That was a nasty slice. And a day after a ref in the Rangers game got 20 stitches across the face (and a broken nose) after a skate got up on him.
The article mentions Clint Malarchuk. I just read about what happened to him, also frightening. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clint_Malarchuk
I remember watching the video of the Clint Malarchuk incident. (If you haven't seen it, and you have a weak stomach, DON'T.) I don't have a weak stomach at all and it still made me a little bit queasy.
I hope everything turns out good for Zednik. I read that he's doing quite well so I hope it keeps up.
The Clint Malarchuk incident was perhaps the most gruesome thing I have ever seen. This Zednik incident looked almost as bad. (Perhaps the *almost* was just because Malarchuk bled out in one spot, and the pool of blood was enough to make any stomach lurch. Zednik got up and skated quickly to the bench, which led a trail of blood instead of one big pool.)
In any case it's a miracle he's doing so well. Thank god he had the sense (and ability) to get up and skate right to the bench. I hope he's alright.
And the irony of it happening again in Buffalo...
(I thought the same thing, too Christina... and I thought it was ironic that the refs took a puck to the face during the Caps game yesterday, too. Look out refs!)
I`m wondering if we will hear talk about neck protectors... all minor hockey league player must wear them. Do you think we might see an NHLer or two with a neck protector?!
Less than two weeks ago I saw a local guy take a puck to the throat, even though he was lucky and just spent a night in the hospital, I wonder how it will affect the league.
Sure accidents happen and in Zednik's case it was pretty flukey, but it happens.
