The Perils of Being a Longtime Fan

Back when I first became a fan I did not have much reaction to trades. I wasn't that familiar with the players of other teams. Now that I have been a Sharks fan for...oh, going on a decade now, I know a lot more of the Sharks history. And have much distress when the Sharks trade for someone we fans have reason to hate!

It was just announced that Jody Shelley has been traded to the Sharks. Jody Shelley caused Brad Stuart's concussion, a few years ago. He has been much reviled by Sharks fans. Of course, there are fans who don't care about stuff like that once the guy is in the teal sweater, but I am not one of them. I am a notorious grudge holder! For instance, I was not happy with Selanne as a Shark and was pleased when he left. I cheered when he scored, because it benefited the team, but that was all.

Oh, this is going to be difficult.

That's tough...the Wild traded for Todd Fedoruk earlier this season and guess who he got a locker next to? Derek Boogaard, the same guy who broke his jaw last year with one punch. It has worked out quite nicely though, I hope this situation does too :) (especially since SJ is my second favorite team!)

One of the hazards of fandom. I know I had to do a real double-take when Calgary signed Fuhr many years ago, or when they introduced their brand new captain, Steve Smith...

Right there with you with Chris Drury. He basically busted the Rangers out of the playoffs with his "clutch" goal, and now dons a NYR jersey. It's not easy liking him, especially when he hasn't met expectations.

Well then give me my damn enforcer back.

I think hockey fans, in general, have a reputation for holding major grudges.
