Say It Ain't So!

They're gone.
They're BOTH gone.

It's true, Danny Briere and Chris Drury have left us Buffalonians in an endless depression. I knew that one of them was going to leave, probably Briere, but never in a million years did I think that we could be stupid enough to let them both go. I'm just dumbfounded. I really don't know what to say, plus I'm nearly in tears, so this post will remain quite blunt.

As for now, I'm just praying for someone descent to replace them, but I beleive that to be quite impossible to do. Not even Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby could fill the void. Well, actually, they probably could, but that's beside the point.

Hmph, today sucks...

Paige, I feel your pain. I'm totally bummed, especially about Chris. But please do not be sucked in by the doom and gloom of Buffalo fans/media. We still have a good team with a lot of young talent. We have a great coach and a great goalie. It would not have been smart or repsonsible to put 14 million dollars into two players. We are not going to suck next year, we are not going to cease to exist, the sky is not falling, the world is not ending. Be sad but hopeful.

Heather-
I know, I know... But the most depressing part yet is that I can't even think of any one that stands out to replace them as captains.

I'm no bandwaggoner- but god, this really sucks.

Paige, here's the thing. When Danny and Chris came to town, neither of them had ever worn letters. We slapped them on their chests and they grew into them. We'll do the same now. Personally I think Mair and Campbell are defintiely ready and I think Miller is going to be the unofficial captain. He can't wear a letter, but it'll be his team. I actually think that during the playoffs he showed more vocal leadership than Danny or Chris. Granted, I have no idea who was saying what in the lockerroom, but Ryan was the one dealing with the media over and over after every game even though he was also the only one who showed up most nights.

It'll be different but it'll be okay, I think.

Hang in there! :-)

As for captains, I'm thinking that Tallinder could be a good possibility, even though he's never worn the letter. Also, Connolly seems to be a strong leader. Unfortunatley, I don't know what goes on in the locker room... but we'll see. Also, Numminen, Afinogenov and I think Hecht have worn letters in the past.

And in case you're wondering, I am definetley a pessimist, so don't let me damper anyone's hopes.

Paige, being a pessimist comes with growing up in Buffalo, I think! I've only lived here for 7 years so I still have a streak of optimism :-)

I like Tally with a letter too. I forgot about Jochen but he used to wear the A pretty regularly and he did really step up his game when Danny and Chris were both out for that stretch last season.

I still say Campbell though. I just have a feeling about Soupy.
