Ryan Smyth

I know I'm not the Oilers girl...however, I love Ryan Smyth...he plays with heart always. Anyway, I'm just curious for everyone's reaction...I personally was floored. Let me know...I will post my opinion tonight when I get home.

Stunned. I thought they might deal him if they couldn't sign him, and it might be just a playoff rental...but still. I'm just shocked that they couldn't sign him, and to the Islanders, of all teams? The deal didn't seem too great, either, I would have thought that Smytty would have rated better consideration...

I did too...I was floored you would think a team that was actually going to make a better run for the playoffs would have grabbed him...I just can't believe it.

I was sort of hoping that the Sabres could snatch him up, but we already have some great scorers, and now we really need some better enforcers. Anyways, I'm stunned, and now I think the Lightning could be a serious playoff threat.

Also stunned. Smyth-Oilers was one of my favorite player-team pairings. It seems impossible to think of one without the other.

Ryan Smyth is so synonymous with the Oilers that I can't even picture him in any other team's jersey. The first game I see him playing with the Islanders might make me cry. I just came into this Oilers love last season but in that little bit of time Smytty came to feel to me like Yzerman with the Wings - that kind of player, that kind of leader, hat kind of, well, heart and soul, like they always say.

Everything else on trade deadline day was minorly upsetting. This one crushed me.

I love Ryan Smyth and I don't like the Islanders. It is really tough to see him out of the Oilers jersey, but I think the trade was a smart move. It's possible they can get him back in the offseason, and they weren't going to make the playoffs anyway. They traded him to Long Island, I doubt that he'll want to stay there. Hopefully he doesn't feel snubbed by the Oilers though.

I was going to tell you off for commenting that you'd doubt Ryan Smyth would want to stay on Long Island, Shan, but I'll refrain. I can't tell your tone.

I too doubt that Ryan Smyth will sign with the Islanders in the off-season, but that's because I think he wants to be an Oiler deep down. Not because of any situation on Long Island.

As happy as I am to have a player like this on my favorite team, I can't take unsullied joy in the move. I feel terrible for Edmonton fans. They don't deserve to have their heart and soul sold off.
