Maybe we'll get Moore tomorrow?

Yeah, lame title, but I couldn't think of a better pun when I've got to go and do 40 pages of parasitology homework.

While the word of the day is obviously Ryan Smyth and Martin Biron's new homes, I figured I'd just say a little about what the Pens have done in the last 24 hours. I'll miss seeing those two in their respective teams, however...and really, the Islanders and the Flyers would be the last two teams I'd want them to go to. I don't want Smytty scoring on the Pens! Or Biron making a save on Sidney...although I'm sure he'd have plenty of opportunity to talk his patented smack against Pittsburgh.

As nhl.com says, the Pens appear to be toughening up their lines...and while I seem to be in the minority, I'm not so sure this is a good idea. Both Roberts and Laraque have skills, but on such a tightly-knit team as the Penguins, where are these gentlemen going to slip in? Thursday's game is going to be an interesting one, with both of the guys suited up. The Pens also picked up a goalie from the Sharks, and a D-man from the Panthers, both of which have been sent to the Baby Pens.

One player I was surprised to see go was Dominic Moore, formerly of the Rangers and now, the Penguins. He was traded for a draft pick, and of all the guys to cut, he was not one I expected. While he wasn't an explosive player like our flashier names, he was a decent guy on the ice, and I'll be sad to see him go. I guess his spot was vacated in order to make room for some shifting lines and the new arrivals, but really, there were weaker links to clip. Anyone know if there is more behind this than meets the eye?

I don't know if there's anything more behind Moore's release, but I thought it was an interesting day for you guys. I like the addition of Roberts' experience and leadership, but from an outsider it seems like you needed more help on the defensive end. Still... I think you guys are going to get to the second round of the playoffs with the potential to surprise someone in the second round. (As long as it's not the Sabres of course. If that's the case, see y'all next year :-))

True to our blog name we both reference lame puns on players' last names in our last two posts here....

Anyway it's all been just too weird...none of the players seem to fit where they've gone. I'll be interested to see what Laraque does with you guys most especially after loving him as an Oiler. Admittedly some of it is just sheer curiosity as to what giving in and nabbing yourself an enforcer will do - it's either hardly going to make a difference, or make a huge one, I think.

Heather b: It definitely was interesting...I guess I'm just paranoid of anything that will shift the Pens off (although after their last few games, it seems like they need to shift ON). But hey, if I'm wrong, I certainly don't mind eating my words. :) We'll see the playoffs, even if we don't see the Cup!

Steph: Yeah, I'm lame. :)

It will be neat to see where they fit...I'm hoping that it will be a GOOD surprise.

i was sad to see moore go too. like you said elly, he hasn't been terribly explosive, but if i remember correctly he was our number one face off winner.

roberts is so old! yeah he's having a decent year, but didn't we learn our lesson last year with pumping up lines with old guys?

laraque will be interesting. the whole thing will be interesting. hopefully in a good way. but yeah i hate trades and i agree steph that no one really seems to fit where they've gone...

I was surprised to see Moore traded too. He seemed to give everything he had when he played. Now if they want to keep their cute little nickname for that line "RPM" I guess they will have to move Malone down!
