Friday Five, Jan. 26

Happy Friday everyone!
No case of the Mondays here! And yeah! Hockey's back tonight!
  1. What's the worst pick up line you've ever heard?
  2. What's one thing you've always wanted to do, but never have?
  3. If you could have a secret camera in any room in the world, what room would you put it in?
  4. If you could, in retrospect, thank one person for what they taught you, who would it be, and what would you thank them for?
  5. If you could possess one supernatural ability, what would it be?
Remember: Answers to be left in the comments!

Hmmm... I think I've used my daily allowance of exclamation marks... One more? Okay!

I love going first! ;-)

1. Hmmm... there have been so many bad ones... I'm going to have to go with one I posted before, but it was just that bad. As I'm watching a hockey game on TV, some dipshit (I'm sure he was a lawyer) says 'so, you like hockey, huh? I have season tickets if you want to go sometime.' Of course my response was 'oh is that what this is? I thought it was a fashion show...'

2. I've always wanted to go on an African safari and get up close and personal with some cool wild animals. (I guess I could do the same in a hockey locker room, but they'd try to attack me, the wild animals on a safari wouldn't).

3. The Dallas Stars locker room, right above Mike Modano's locker.

4. My girlfriend Carla for teaching me how to be my own person and take pride in myself and not let anyone else's opinion bother me.

5. The ability to move objects with my mind. (That would come in handy at hockey games, eh?)

Am I destined to be forever trailing thehockeychick?? ;)

1. Thankfully not too many bad pick up lines in my lifetime, although I did once get called "Shakira" when I was in Italy. I'm still confused by that one. Best pickup line? "Hi". Works every time.

2. I've always wanted to take a train ride across Canada and/or a car ride across the US. I've traveled outside of North America a lot, but there are so many things I haven't seen right here at home.

3. Hmmm...I wonder what everyone's answer will be to this one? :) I bet mine will be original - the Washington Capitals locker room. No one else cares enough about them to see them all nekkid!

4. I would probably have to thank my dad for teaching me the importance of creating a support group around you for when times are rough and when times are great. Plus my sense of humor is all him (as is my curly, unmanageable hair...thanks dad!)

5. I would like to be invisible... and not just to make #3 unnecessary! I love observing people and seeing how they interact when not in any kind of spotlight, be it on the ice or in an office.

1. As a fresh-faced girl on a roadtrip at a gas station in Memphis, I got approached by the largest man I've ever seen and he said, "I'll pump your gas for you." Whaaaaat?

2. The one thing I've always wanted to do is be fluent in another language. I've started to learn a number of times but just can't seem to stick with it.

3. A secret camera, eh? Trying to keep this non-hockey related and not say the Flames dressing room, I would put it um... um... in Dion's car to see if he sings while driving. Ha ha :D

4. I would thank my Grandpa for teaching me how to put family first but still keeping yourself true.

5. I too, would want to be invisible. CC and I would then cause chaos the world round. Or maybe I would choose teleporting. Hmmm... It's a toss-up. Although, if I were invisible I could just get on airplanes without notice and travel to anywhere.

I've done the latter. My sister and I spent about a month-and-a-half doing a big loop around the country when we were in college. If you ever do get the chance to drive cross-country it's really great. I highly recommend it! Although we were incredibly sick of driving toward the end. :)

1. The post office where an icky old man told me "you eve been to yum cha? I'll take you there next time."

2. Paintballing. None of my friends have enough balls.

3. Oh boy. Can it be a mirror of my favourite players?

4. I want to thank you for the music.

5. Oooh this is hard. I guess to talk to people in their minds - "Shoot the damn puck Hemsky!"

1. I don't know, probably because I am completely clueless about when I am being picked up, flirted with, etc. My friends point it out to me later (usually in disgust at my inability to read people).

2. Learn to ice skate, of course. When I was little the nearest rink was 45 minutes away and my mom said it was too expensive. :( Now my left ankle is really weak from being sprained several times and I am afraid!

3. Wow: I really can't think of a single room that wouldn't eventually get boring if I could look at it 24/7. And I might see something unpleasant.

4. The Literacy Coach at my old school, for teaching me that relying on the "lessons" in textbooks is not really teaching.

5. I would choose to be able to bend others to my will. It would be a great help with classroom management and I could make people give me the free flights the invisible ones talked about.

1. I don't know... one that was particularly bad was when this guy just walked up to my friend and said "I love you," very bluntly and very stupidly. Maybe he thought he could do that since he was so popular...

2. I've always really wanted to travel across Europe. It just seems so cool to be the visitor somewhere. I havn't been anywhere other than Quebec where they speak a different language.

3. I think it would be pretty cool to see inside the training area of the Sabres. I really want to see what they talk about casually, especially b/c I hear that Maxim Afinogenov and Dmitri Kalinin talk to eachother in Russian often.

4.I'd thank my Dad, for explaining hockey to me, when I was interested, but no one though I would be. I probably would also thank my friends Kelsey and Emily, for being my Sabres Girls!

5. Oh my god, I would love to be able to transport myself to anywhere I wanted, at any time. I would be like "Just popping over to Brazil for a few minutes, gosh it's cold in Buffalo." I could also just pop inside HSBC Arena during a game or practice.

1. "Girl, if you were a booger, I'd pick you first."
It's not one I've experienced firsthand, though.

2. Karaoke, but I don't have the right friends for it.
Uh, and maybe strip aerobics.

3. The room when large scale conspiracies to deceive the world are planned. Knowledge is power.

4. My 5th grade teacher for teaching me about the science of flight, the only science lessons I remember like the back of my hand...and writing skills.

5. Mind-reading. So many things I've wanted to know...

1. "So Jason ... show me why they call you 'Tits.'" - I thought of it when Ray Emery said that Spezza's nickname on the team was Tits. I'm not proud.

2. Travel with an NHL team. Naptime, lunchtime, skate time, pre-game time, game-time, post-game time, travel-time ... I love being taken care of.

3. Ottawa Senators' locker-room.

4. Thank you silence.

5. Telekinesis. We'd never lose.

1. What's the worst pick up line you've ever heard?

"let me get up in them guts."

2. What's one thing you've always wanted to do, but never have?

... wentworth miller.

3. If you could have a secret camera in any room in the world, what room would you put it in?

i would string a whole network of them together in various locker rooms and front offices of various hockey teams.

4. If you could, in retrospect, thank one person for what they taught you, who would it be, and what would you thank them for?

my sixth through eighth grade teacher for instilling in me the value of a properly timed comma and a properly used gerund. and also, what a gerund is.

5. If you could possess one supernatural ability, what would it be?

the ability to teleport. i really hate commuting.

1) Of all the craptacular pick-up lines I get at work, "HEY YO BABY, GIMME YO' PHONE NUMBAH!" is the worst. (And before any overly-sensitive asshat starts screaming: I get that exact verbiage from white guys too)

2) Travel. Thank you the Bush Reich for effectively making me a prisoner in my own country.

3) I am far too jealous of my own privacy to go invading somebody else's.

4) Well it's already been done, but I would thank Mike Stackpole for telling me that if I didn't like the way my favorite sci-fi universe was being written, to get off my ass and start writing for it.

5) Telekinesis.

- worst pick up line: "do you like chicken?" / "yes, why?" / "then grab a wing." (sticks out arm as an escort would)

- always wanted to... write a novel and get it pubbed. One day, one day.

- secret camera would have to go to the boys in the locker room... cuz, they're crazy and probably do all kinds of silly/gross/funny things, not cuz I want to see. LOL. But, hey, I won't object to seeing.

- thank one person for what they've taught me? My 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. W. She made me a lover of English... without her forcing me to do monthly book reports, I would have never majored in English.

- supernatural ability: mind reading. I'd always rather know the truth, even if it hurts... and plus, I want to be able to interpret those fascinating beings called "men". LOL.

Oh my! I remembered the worst pick up line thrown my way. Prepare yourselves, if you wear glasses or carry some extra weight and are not happy about either, you will understand my horror...

"I like heavyset women who wear glasses."
That alone does not look that bad but it was said by a creepy young man that talked so softly you had to lean close to hear. I still get creeped out when I remember it!

1. What's the worst pick up line you've ever heard?
Well seeing as how I've never been picked up before...I'll just have to say they're all pretty horrible?

2. What's one thing you've always wanted to do, but never have?
Oh boy, a ton. I've always wanted to learn sign language and read lips. I've always wanted to go on top of the Eiffel tower. I've always wanted to put out an album...a ton!

3. If you could have a secret camera in any room in the world, what room would you put it in?
Wow. Definitely not the locker rooms because I find that gross. I'd say inside Bettman's office because I seriously want to know what the heck goes on in there.

4. If you could, in retrospect, thank one person for what they taught you, who would it be, and what would you thank them for?
The teen fellowship leader who invited me to fellowship one time even though I wasn't old enough. He taught me that I wasn't as lost as I thought I was.

5. If you could possess one supernatural ability, what would it be?
Time travel. Just because it's fun.

1. I'm a freshman, what year are you?

2. I've always wanted horseback riding lessons.

3. The White House Oval Office, to see who's making all the poor decisions

4. My folks, for always encouraging me and my sisters to be different and to follow what ever muse was guiding us.

5. I would choose the ability to fly. I'm so tired of walking places. So much time is wasted in transit.
