Cross-checking is not a grammatical term

Thanks for the welcome Jordi! I recently started my own blog and am getting acquainted with the blogosphere pretty quickly. So let's get to it...

1. Where you're from, what you do - basic things.

Born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Lived there until a year and a half ago. I'm now in Boulder, CO (I'm not converting to an Avs fan... not yet, at least... I can't make any promises) with my fiancee as he's going to school.

I am an office manager for an internet company. I have a degree in print journalism. My passion for hockey fueled my passion to cover it. But things didn't turn out the way I wanted them to. I worked as an intern for the Florida Panthers Hockey Club for half the '00-01 season. I left that internship early to move to New York City for an internship with Sports Illustrated. Needless to say, that was AWESOME!

2. Your team and why you like them.

My team is the St. Louis Blues. "But you're a native Floridian, why the Blues?" you ask intriguingly. There was no hockey team in Florida when I was growing up. But my parents are from St. Louis and my mom is a tomboy sports nut. So along with being a crazy Cardinals fan, I became a crazy Blues fan as well.

They have a strategy to their basement standing last season. They hit rock bottom and give all the energy of their fans to the Cardinals. The next season they start off poorly, until the Cardinals win the World Series and they win the Stanley Cup the same year. It’s really a simple plan, if you think about it.

3. Your least favourite team and why?

Well, it used to be the Avalanche (ironic, I know) because of Patrick Roy. Settle down, I know he was a great goalie. No doubt about that. But his attitude SUCKED. After I heard about him going into the coach's office and putting his foot through the TV in anger… ugh, that was the icing on the cake for my hatred towards him.

I really dislike the Islanders now. Personal reasons which may come out later in my posts. =)

4. Your favourite player of all time & now?

That's a tough one. Hmmm… I’ll go with Al MacInnis. Not much explanation needed other than he was a tremendous defenseman on the ice and a class act off the ice. Now it’s Mike Modano. Not even on my team, weird, I know. Yes, I'll admit it began because he's gorgeous. But aside from that, he's a franchise player and I respect that. He's also a hell of a goal scorer. He's a beautiful skater and a great teammate.

5. If you had to punch one hockey player or member of the NHL organisation, who and why?

Adam Foote. He always instigated fights with my favorite players. Bastard.

6. What you'll be looking forward in this group blog.

Reading the other posts and enjoying a community of chicks that enjoy hockey. I was like an alien in Florida. Definitely more chicks that like hockey out in Colorado, but still an oddity around these parts. And I will enjoy sharing my personal hockey experiences with you and look forward to yours.

7. What you don't like in general?

Fake people. Greedy people. Arrogant people. I-know-everything-people. Shit-talkers. Basically, the majority of high society. Oh, and olives, oregano, pork, lamb and goat cheese.

8. What role do female fans play in keeping the game alive?

Working as a hostess in a downtown restaurant/bar in Ft. Lauderdale, there was a TV mounted from the ceiling I could watch while I was working. The Panthers were on. The place was packed around the bar, so my job as the hostess was to stand there in case someone wanted a table which wasn’t happening. This arrogant (which I don’t like, see comment above) lawyer dude comes up and tries to talk to me. “What ya’ watching?” I point to the ONLY TV in front of me and say “The Panthers game.” That apparently wasn’t in a rude enough tone for him. He continued on “so you like hockey, huh? That’s so cool.” Again, I went with the trying to be obvious, “uh, yeah. I’m watching a hockey game.” Still didn’t scare him off. Then the clincher, “Well I have season tickets in the suite level. I could take you to a game sometime.” My very polite response was “thanks, but I’ll sit in the nosebleeds with the real fans.”

Just being a true female fan and proving to males in general that we exist helps keep the game alive. Because then the males that don’t care much for the game will start liking it to try and impress us.

9. What role do female fans play in picking heroes for the community?

10. Hockey just isn't the same without Wayne Gretzky!

11. If you were on a deserted island, which player would you pick to stay with you?

Keith Tkachuk – he would totally have me cracking up.

12. Crosby, Ovechkin or Phaneuf (hey he tried!)?

Crosby. He’s a poster boy for good, all-around hockey.

13. The player you'd like to take for a grand night out/a movie/a boring event

Grand night out: Mike Modano. He’s a classy-looking guy, seems cultured and would look very nice in a tux.

Movie: Roberto Luongo. He is a pretty laid back guy and fun to be around.

Boring event: Brendan Shanahan. Great sense of humor and would make anything interesting.

14. If you could make your own team, regardless of whatever players, what would it be called and where will it be/how would it be like?

It would be called the Rink Monkeys. It would be a floating team. It would be wherever I am. It would be like Craig Ferguson meets Heli Skiing.

Great post title.

I also have no real great explanation for why I hate Patrick Roy as much as I do, but I do.

Grrr, now I'm going to go break something in honor of hated Roy.

Awesome. I don't like goats cheese either.

Good to hear that there's fans everywhere, and that I sometimes cackle to myself when I see the list of people who joined.

"I can't hear what Jeremy's saying cause I've got my two Stanley Cup rings plugged in my ears"

I suppose you can't be from Canada and not like Patrick Roy although I'm generally indifferent towards him.

I'm from Canada and I fucking hate Patrick Roy.

Also, how can y'all not like goat cheese? It's delicious. DELICIOUS!

I stand corrected then :P

I hate all cheese actually, does that make me weird?

Mike Modano is indeed a talented player...but I will forever link him to that one time somebody told me they saw him at an 'N Sync concert.

That's the saddest thing I've ever heard.

And it's not that I hate goats cheese, it's just that it doesn't taste too much like cheese sometimes.

Seems like everyone hates Roy. Maybe I sould worship him to balance out the hate?

Does it make Mike Modano more manly that he was at Derian Hatcher's Stanley Cup party when Pantera was playing there?

And yes Sherry, hating all cheese is not human. You must be from outer space.

I like Roy. Sure, from time to time his behaviour was questionable, but he was still awesome.

I don't like Roy or Modano... LOL. Looks like we'll be at opposite ends of the ice more often than not, eh?

Rink monkeys--I like that.

I'm amused to see that the default bio blurb has gone from "may sell drugs to kids" to "sells drugs to kids."
Where are we getting these new bloggers from?

Welcome to the hlog, Colleen :)

I should offer to change that blurb... Just tell me if you guys want to make it "May sell drugs" or "Ocassionally"

I prefer occassionally. Don't want the Feds coming after me for back taxes.
