Sherry: What she lacks in height, she makes up for in snark

I figure I'd get this done before Jordi decides she wants everybody to think I strangle kittens in my spare time. Which is not true because: 1) What spare time? 2) I love kittens!

Where you're from, what you do - basic things.
The name's Sherry, last name is of French origin but I'm actually not at all French. I am the genius/loser behind Scarlett Ice. I was born in Taiwan but moved to Canada in '92 and I've been living in the middle of Leafs Nation ever since. I'm in my third-year of Commerce and Marketing studies at McMaster University in Hamilton. I hate it. Please don't ask me about it unless it's along the lines of "But how much DO you hate it?" I plan on either going to law school after graduation or hopefully finding work either in the hockey or music industry.
I'm a volunteer at the campus radio station and asides from hockey I have a love for the artsy-fartsy. You know, indie music, photography, creative writing and such silliness. I'm unhealthily addicted to coffee, which I blame for my shortness and also enjoy things that are orange and/or vanilla scented, as well as television shows that don't last more than two seasons. I play five instruments [piano, guitar, flute, clarinet and saxophone] and write horrible emo songs in my spare time.

Your team and why you like them
Ottawa Senators. I grew up a Leafs fan but eventually I just got sick of "TORONTO - Centre of the Universe!" I started watching the Senators play and really appreciated their style; they play a complete game that is entertaining at the same time. Plus I'm hopelessly in love with the City of Ottawa and hope to move their one day. Mind as well get my homer-love on now.

Your least favourite team and why?
I'm going to break with tradition and not say the Leafs. They were the first team that I loved and any team that once had Felix "the Cat" in net is okay in my books. Dallas-- because my cousin was from there and we really didn't like each other for awhile. Gosh, this is turning into a therapy session isn't it? And also...Anaheim. I can't like anybody that used to associate with evil incarnate [Disney].

Your favourite player of all time & now?
All Time: Steve Yzerman. Sakic's a close second.
Now: Wade Redden
I'm into cerebral players that can envision the game from all aspects...and pop out one of those quotes that make you go "WTF?"

If you had to punch one hockey player or member of the NHL organisation, who and why?
'Sup Chelios? How's retirement treating you? Oh you're not retired yet?... You're WHAT?!
Kovalchuk and his wayward stick.

What you'll be looking forward in this group blog.
Complete hockey blog domination.
Having some nice interaction with fellow female fans so that my faith in female hockey fans can be restored. Squee about things and not feel guilty and that the EYES 'O JUDGMENT are being cast on me. I always love to hear different opinions and perspectives about the game that hath stolen my heart so having ladies from different backgrounds giving their input is a great experience.

What you don't like in general?
We'll be stuck here all year so I'm going to try to make this as succinct as possible:
Cheese. Bacon. Round edges. Ovechkin when he decides to make out with the camera and I'm left awkwardly watching [you know what I'm talking about]. Dumb-asses. The commerce program I've committed 4 years of my life to. People who don't know how to lighten the hell up. Divers...EFFING DIVERS [I'm looking at you Derek Roy!]

What role do female fans play in keeping the game alive?
Females can kick ass. Female hockey has been a very important factor in the development of the game, but that's a whole other rant for a whole other day.
Women are able to appreciate the game beyond the immediate product on the ice. We're more able to remember that the players are more than just these little robots in funny outfits programmed to rock 'em and sock 'em.
Of course taken to an unhealthy extreme, you get the puckbunnies who use the game as an excuse for whatever, ahem, extracurriculars they care to indulge in. (Get Immunized before you're Hiltonized!)
I know I enjoy the game for its action, for its pace and for the excitement it brings, but I don't think my male friends can say that they also see the game as a grand production akin to a graceful symphony because of all of the intangibles involved with the sport.

What role do female fans play in picking heroes for the community?
Similar to what I said before. Many male fans don't care for the stories that the players go through to achieve the level of success that they do unless it's for a particular player they actually have interest in.
Like they said, behind every successful man, there's a woman. The mothers are the ones getting up early in the morning driving the boys to practice. They remember how hard the guys work to achieve success and if the players were raised right by their mamas, they'll realize that they have a responsibility to give back.

What the heck was I talking about?

Hockey just isn't the same without ___
A couple of the guys droppin' 'em [the gloves! get your minds out of the gutter]

If you were on a deserted island, which player would you pick to stay with you?
I'm not sure...I think fame and money has made alot of these guys too soft ;P
I'll just say Wade Redden because he has a boat and a guitar [...but I'm the one who gets to play the guitar].

Crosby, Ovechkin or Phaneuf (hey he tried!)?
I have such a love-hate relationship with Ovechkin. Crosby reminds me of a 12-year-old kid at times (seriously, how can a guy who plays hockey for a living still have so much baby fat?!) so I'm going to go with Phaneuf.

The player you'd like to take for a grand night out/a movie/a boring event
Grand Night Out: If it's a concert I'll say Smitty [Mark Smith] because he appreciates music.
Trevor Linden just because the poor guy needs a vacation. Redden because he could also lighten up [although in the last interview I saw him in he was very smiley. Must be the new girlfriend (sigh)]
Movie: Erik Cole because he quotes Napoleon Dynamite, and anybody who quotes Napoleon Dynamite is clearly a genius.
A Boring Event: See, I don't know what would qualify as boring because I'm one of those freaks of nature that actually enjoys the opera and musicals. I'll say Tom Preissing because anybody who writes a paper about the NHL using the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index obviously has a high tolerance for boring.

If you could make your own team, regardless of whatever players, what would it be called and where will it be/how would it be like?
We would be called the Ottawa Senators and we would be perfect.
Oh, wait.
We would be called Team Awesome, and we would be awesome.
This is hard!

(Housekeeping Note: Unless anybody terribly objects, I put links to your profile entries underneath your name in the sidebar)

Y'all need somebody representin' the 9-1-9. How do I get in on this?

Jordi - I thought of that phrase when I should have been paying attention in Stastitics class in honour of Theodore's burning five-hole. Don't blame me, blame the guy who showed up to class in a Theodore jersey.
