I'm not sure Pronger was really aiming for the head, but I don't think intent should factor in. He hit the guy in the head. Yes, he should be suspended. Honestly though? It bugs me big time that he'll probably get suspended for this hit when many other hits that were just as severe - or more severe - were overlooked during the season. Some consistency on this issue would be awfully nice.
The slow motion replay looks like he pushed out his elbow to hit McAmmond. Whether or not he intended to hit him in the head?? Who knows. And I don't buy the excuse that he's 6'6'' and that his height should be taken into account. The guy has been playing hockey for how many years? Please. Not an excuse.
Since he was suspended for the hit on Holmstrom I would be very surprised if he did not get suspended for this hit.
He was suspended one game again.
What's that line from Mighty Ducks? "Two minutes, well worth it." I bet he figures it was a good price to pay being suspended for only one game. He keeps taking these same cheap shots and he never really gets penalized for it. Until he gets into serious trouble over it, he'll keep doing the same thing. Of course, that's just my opinion as a Pronger-hater/lover. Ha ha.
Since Pronger scored to put the Sens in the lead last night, will taking him out one game will hurt Anaheim all that much?
i agree heather - some consistency would be a plus.
Tracy: ahaha it's not like it until you get Pronger with a bad chest cold to say that. "Twooo minnutees welll worff it."
Pronger's been pretty bad sometimes in games so it's not that much of a problem and last time the Ducks won without Pronger. So meh. But one game? Jesus.
I'll agree that one game is ridiculous when Pronger was suspended for the same thing FIVE GAMES ago. I know when you suspend a guy from games 4 and 5 of the Cup finals, you're giving out a pretty serious punishment but it's Pronger's fault for not using his freakin' head in such an important serious. Clearly, he didn't get the message last time so make sure he gets it this time.
That said, it's B.S. that when Brian Burke asked about Neil's hit on McDonald he was told that McDonald wasn't injured so he had no reason to complain. I'm so over this "injury=suspension"/"no injury=fine and dandy, no worries" mindset. It's crap. I think Neil's hit was equally bad as Pronger's if not worse. Yes, I am a Sabres fan who dislikes Chris Neil greatly but I'm so tired of watching this guy leave his feet on every single hit, often from behind, and make contact with guys' heads.
Colin Campbell sucks.
That's the thing, some players don't intend to injure or hurt but they get away with it. Or they can lay down brutal checks that are usually whistled but because they're an aggressive player, most people think its acceptable. And when the aggressive player hurts someone, people are still screaming "he's always doing this! about time!" and the other end are going "He always does this! What's wrong with it!?"
We need fucking better refs that's what.
Ok...Duck Fan here...
I don't think Pronger intended to hit him in the head. However, after so many years playing, shouldn't he be more aware of where he is hitting due to his size?
Bad hit. Pronger should be suspended. I thought we would lose him for the rest of the series, especially since he was just suspended for the same thing last series.
Lucky us (Ducks) the he is only gone one game.
If this were not my team, I would e screaming for a long suspension, but since it is my team and we are in the finals, I think it is fair.
I dunno, my not so inner roller derby player just sees Pronger as bracing for the impact, not throwing he elbow out... if anything, it looks to me like he almost steps into it to catch McAmmond with more of his body than just the elbow. It's almost like bloody football.
